Job Purpose and Summary
This is a seasonal position that is designed to provide routine support in the maintenance/repair of automotive and related equipment for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Work is initially reviewed closely, and close supervision is received when new work processes or procedures are introduced, however, employees are expected to perform with limited guidance after the work process is learned.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Assists mechanics in the repair of automotive equipment/vehicles and their components.
Assists mechanics with minor diagnostic and repair work on engines, hydraulic systems, and other systems.
Analyzes, troubleshoots, and tests equipment.
Maintains supply, service, and repair records.
Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment.
Ensures mechanics are supplied with proper tools, equipment, and work materials.
Assists with emergency road-side services when needed.
Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Must be currently enrolled in a second-year post-secondary accredited technical school for automotive technology, or related field.
OR
Completion of a high school vocational program in automotive technology AND currently enrolled in a first-year post-secondary accredited technical school for automotive technology, or related field.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Position demands include frequent speaking, both in person and by telephone. May require long periods of sitting, standing, or bending. Position requires the physical capability to operate and carry heavy tools/equipment up to 75 pounds without the assistance of a lifting device. Works overhead or in a bending/squatting position frequently.
Exposure to some undesirable or unpleasant environmental conditions. May have exposure to high temperatures, heights, dust, noise, and chemicals. Environment could be wet/damp. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed in field conditions.
