IMMEDIATE OPENING for a Full-time Surgical Technician to support Langley Air Force Base, VA

SPECIFIC TASKS and duties include, but not limited to:

  • Participates in managing and evaluating surgical patient care activities. Organizes the medical environment, performs and directs support activities in patient care situations, including contingency operations and disasters.
  • Assists professional staff in providing patient care for the surgical patient before, during, and after surgery.
  • Performs scrub and circulating duties in the operating room (OR) and clinical duties in the ENT clinic. Processes, stores, and distributes sterile supplies.
  • Coordinates in activities related to the clinic, OR and Central Sterile Supply Services (CSSS).
  • Oversees otolaryngology (ENT) Clinical and Operative Operations managing DHA access to care standards and booking guidance compliance.
  • Manages administrative duties

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications: Must be knowledgeable in fundamentals of anatomy and physiology; principles of asepsis and sterile techniques; preparing and storing surgical sets and packs, surgical instrumentation, and equipment; OR and anesthesia procedures; pathology as it applies to specimen care and handling; basic microbiology and infection control principles; basic surgical pharmacology; sterilizing and disinfecting procedures; surgical and anesthesia complications and their treatment; hospital and OR environmental hazards and safety procedures; handling and storage of compressed gases; basic medical material procedures; basic medical administrations procedures; legal aspects of preoperative care and medical ethics; roles and qualifications of surgical team members; and basic clinical functions

Degree/Education:

  • Education: Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • Certification: Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • Experience: One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.
