The Opportunity
The survey technician assists the field crew chief in daily tasks. The day to day tasks vary depending on the work. Sambatek has a wide range of work including: public/private, commercial, residential, municipal, utility, and energy. The staff really enjoy the diversity of the work and the opportunities to work on a wide range of work. This is a high production-orientated position; annual production goals range from 90-95%.
Generally, the field crews start around 6 am during the summer. Winters are more relaxed as the sun doesn’t rise as early. The end of the days can vary due to the workload/location, but they aim to be done by 4 pm. The field crew chief will continue to train and mentor you while on projects. You will have opportunities to use the equipment and be coached on what the task you are doing and why it is done in such a manner.
Qualified candidate will:
- Provide technical expertise to crew chiefs and clients
- Work with crew chiefs to understand project scope, budgets, and schedules
- Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including: construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types
- Work with registered land surveyors to determine boundaries
- Interpret and review engineering plans while completing construction staking activities- must problem solve and know when to ask questions
- Review work, quality control, and presentation of field survey data such as data files, field notes, and site photos
- Maintain a field truck- keep it clean and organized
- Operate and perform general maintenance on GPS, total stations, and data collectors- we currently use Trimble equipment such as: S5, S6, SX-12, R10, R12, and TSC 7
- Maintain productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers
- Adhere to the company's safety, QA/QC, and surveying policies
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience working as a survey technician or instrument technician
- Or Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying
- Ability to meet deadlines and stay within budget
- Basic MS Office Suite computer skills
- Ability to retain verbal and written communication
- Valid driver’s license required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons of weather
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
