POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the Aquatics Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA. The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for providing swimming instruction using National Aquatic YMCA Programs and ensuring safety of the students at all times. The Swim Lesson Instructor will assist the Aquatic Director with various branch activities such as special events, and other activities that occur on various occasions
- Teach aquatic skills
- Maintain attendance and skill accomplishment records.
- Dress appropriately for teaching class.
- Follow prepared lesson plans.
- Maintain teaching equipment (kick boards, floats, etc.).
- Maintain surveillance of participants and know their whereabouts at all times.
- Know the YMCA emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, trainings and special events.
Classes and private/semi-private swimming lessons are assigned by seniority and availability. Assigned hours are subject to change due to insufficient enrollment in classes. The Program Director schedules and assigns all group and private/semi-private lessons. Position may require day, night and weekend work.
- 16 years of age or older
- Certified in YMCA or Red Cross Lifesaving/Specialist Aquatic Leadership
- Adult, child and infant CPR and Community First Aid
- Must exhibit a stable temperament and a high degree of maturity
- Ability to communicate with people of all levels
- Have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA
- Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
