About the Job

The Job is the development and deployment of communication systems to service the harsh environmental requirements of rugged Military, Space platforms, and high reliability Industrial applications. To that end Micropac is looking for a System Engineer (SE) with end-to-end experience in the development of high-speed optical communication systems. Expert hardware knowledge of implementations, from Initiator to Fiber, including FPGA, micro-processor interface and fiber-optic transceivers instantiations is a prerequisite to support the business unit’s future product development and roadmaps. This is a customer facing role involving the translation of requirements into actionable product plans and physical hardware. The DSE will architect system designs to the extent of hand-off to internal design resources while having the capability to engage in design analysis and tradeoff evaluation as an individual designer. Hands-on experience with applicable CAD tools and test instruments, as well as electronic interfaces, media conversion and optical engines is required. Understanding of the fundamentals of communications including signal integrity and link budget for data rates from Mb to hundreds of Gb is essential to the job function.

The DSE will lead by example and work cross functionally to contribute to business success in new orders (NSE) and shipping (NSB) goals and owns the design architecture and product definition. The DSE will collaborate with Fiber Optic Product Line Manager and the Business Unit Director in the development of product line strategy and roadmaps.

Job Responsibilities

The essential functions and key responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

The System Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert for Fiber Optic Product line and lead communication product developments based upon media protocol conversion and optical engine hardware.

What You'll Do:

  • Define product requirements through engagement with key customers, target markets and internal stakeholders to develop product growth strategies.
  • Support new product definition, development and release to market initiatives.

· Create MRDs (Market Requirement Documents) and kick-off new product development in support of product line roadmap.

· Represent Micropac at industry wide technical forums and standards committees

· Present papers and technical discussions

  • Travel up to 25%

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years Communication systems definition experience or
  • 10+ years related experience in physical layer interfaces and controls
  • Strong communication abilities; written and oral
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across multiple functional organizations
  • BSEE from an accredited institution

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • MSEE
  • Understanding of software requirements to support systems development
  • Experience with space radiation effects
  • Strong understanding of initiator interfaces such as Rapid-IO and PCIe
  • Understanding of standards such as VITA and SOSA along with SpaceWire or SpaceFibre implementations would a be a strong plus.
  • Existing relationships within the Aerospace, Medical, or Industrial markets
