Systems Administrator (Open to Remote)
Job description
Penguin Random House is currently seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator. This individual will install, administer, and optimize monitoring, production control systems, and related components to achieve and maintain high performance and availability of the whole IT infrastructure; Make recommendations on system enhancements for optimization based on best practices; Respond to new requirements and ensure the company’s needs are being met in a timely fashion; Provide day-to-day support on systems, including incident reporting and management.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage system updates, upgrades, patching, and module implementation
- Configure advanced alerting rules based on user requirements
- Expect to be called upon to analyze and interpret traffic and utilization of services and systems
- Provide reports and utilities to monitor system and network objects
- Create and modify jobs, workflows, and schedules for production control systems
- Basic troubleshooting of scripts in a wide range of environments
- Fully document the current environments, including diagrams, SOP documentation, and user guides
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises, security and troubleshooting events is expected
- Provide on-call support, as well as scheduling and attendance for maintenance windows on nights and weekends as needed.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of systems administration experience
- Experience working with Windows Server 2016/2019
- Experience with Unix, Linux, or Solaris
- Experience with virtualization and/or cloud infrastructure
- Experience with web servers (IIS, Apache, Jetty, etc.)
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Perl, Bash, etc.)
- Effective in working independently or within a small team environment
- Can work on high impact/high pressure day-to-day support issues, managing various technologies
- Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and written with all levels of the organization
- Willing to work a flexible work schedule to include after-hours/weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or IT Certifications
- Experience with SolarWinds Orion configuration and management for NPM, SAM, WPM, IPAM, VNQM, VMAN modules highly preferred
- SQL query experience preferred
- Experience with SolarWinds SAM or other monitoring platform preferred
- Experience with Broadcom Automic Automation
