GENERAL FUNCTION:
The primary focus is to provide first- to second-level engineering support to the operations team and editorial staff. SYSTEMS ENGINEER - BIT supports NRCS IT systems, studio, and production equipment. SYSTEMS ENGINEER - BIT will troubleshoot systems in a live news and studio production facility. Some after-hours support, maintenance and incident response of Master Control, playout and automation infrastructure, off-site disaster recovery systems and live production event transmission. Must have three years of experience with a television broadcast facility as an engineering or IT team member and a good understanding of ITIL and Agile frameworks is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support NRCS, video production, edit suite and similar.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of technical equipment.
- Windows/Linux/macOS computers and networks support.
- First and second-level IT support to users in a newsroom.
- Experience with Microsoft Office O365 is a plus.
- Evaluating, prioritizing, solving and escalating all tickets to the appropriate Tier Support, and/or correcting the assignment of tickets as required; Enter, update and close out tickets and change requests as required in a ticketing system.
- Take ownership of assigned vendor issues until complete resolution.
- Generate and maintain BIT procedures and workflows.
- Generate, maintain and update equipment documentation, standard operating procedures and preventative maintenance procedures as required.
- Provide onboarding and provisioning of new accounts, and termination for users departing the organization.
- Management of assigned projects and timelines.
- Other duties as assigned.

Must have extensive experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- Video compression standards (MPEG2, H.264/AVC, HEVC).
- Video transmission protocols/formats (MPEG2 transport stream, SCTE35, ASI, RTP, SRT, RIST).
- NRCS systems and video production (Experience with Dalet is a plus).
- Packet and signal capture analysis.
- Uncompressed Digital Video (HD-SDI, 3G, SCTE104, SCTE224).
- Systems telemetry monitoring, alerting, observability and automation.
- Windows domain experience.
- Linux experience (server configuration, shell scripting, log analysis, Python) is a plus.
- Database concepts, SQL statements.
- IT and Network technology concepts (IP routing/switching, multicast routing, protocol analysis, server management).
- Routing and Switching experience, Multicast, MRouting, QoS, VLANs, Spanning Tree, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS; Internet/Enterprise advanced services - TCP /IP, DNS, SMTP, SSL, VPN, Internet DMZ infrastructure. Routers, switches, and terminal servers.
- IT Security; working knowledge of FWs, IDS, and IPS.
- AutoCAD documentation experience is a plus.
- Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work effectively in cramped spaces.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Technical degree desired (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Information Systems).
- Technical certifications (MCSA/CCNA).
- ITIL Foundation desired.
- Three plus years of broadcast media experience.
- Three-five years of experience in the IT domain and enterprise networking.
