Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) in Madison, WI is currently recruiting for a Teacher.

MMHI is conveniently located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. A secure setting to meet the legal and behavioral needs of our patients is provided. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system.

This position will primarily work Monday-Friday with daytime hours.

Position Summary


This position provides educational services to students ranging from 13 years of age to adult learners at the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC) and the Treatment Mall by assessing and evaluating needs and providing educational programs to meet those needs, including students that may have exceptional education needs. Additional duties include, coordinating and participating in individual education plans and providing consultation services to community agencies and schools in regards to education programs and services that are provided at MJTC and Treatment Mall.

Salary Information


Pay for this position is between $27.50 and $31.44 per hour (between $57,200 and $65,395 per year) or up to the appointment max at time of hire, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Add-on pay up to an additional $2.97 per hour is available for relevant credits that are above those required for certification. The pay schedule/range is 13/04. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

All applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified candidates will have the following:

  • Licensure or eligible for licensure by the Department of Public Instruction in one of the following areas: early adolescence to adolescence (level 73, age 10-21) or early childhood to adolescence (level 74, birth-age 21).
    • Eligible is defined as your license application is currently in progress with the WI Department of Instruction or you currently hold a license in one of the above categories in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Wisconsin.)

Well-qualified candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Licensure or eligible for licensure by the Department of Public Instruction in one of the following areas:
    • Cross-Categorical Special Education (801),
    • Cognitive Disabilities (810),
    • Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (830),
    • Learning Disabilities (811) for early adolescence to adolescence (level 73, age 10-21) or early childhood to adolescence (level 74, birth-age 21).
  • Experience working with or teaching students with behavioral issues, emotional disorders and/or mental illnesses.
  • Experience using evidence-based methods or programs for instruction.
