Teacher - Middle School Business and Economics

The Middle School Business and Economics teachers are responsible for planning and implementing the B&E curriculum. This position will accomplish these duties while working with students, parents, other teachers, and staff toward achieving the goals outlined in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statements.

The Business and Economics Teacher at PRA will

  • Deliver instruction on topics such as the principles of marketing, how to operate a business, the financial aspects of business, and general macroeconomic concepts
  • Teach topics such as basic economics, resume writing, personal finance, the stock market, accounting, and finance
  • Define the differences between market and centrally planned economies and review their successes and failures in recent history
  • Provide an introduction to the skills and knowledge necessary for students to function as responsible citizens in the business world
  • Provide lecture and cooperative opportunities to visit and meet with business leaders in the community
  • Facilitate a school-based, Shark Tank where students can create and pitch their start-up businesses
  • Create lesson plans and utilize up-to-date curriculum resources
  • Demonstrate excellent instructional delivery
  • Keep current on recent business trends and developments
  • Be responsible for conducting an organized and professional classroom:
  • Plan and implement the approved business and economics curriculum for specific content area
  • Model and foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning
  • Show empathy and understanding for students
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Develops a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity with parents and students
  • Assesses student performance frequently and objectively
  • Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents
  • Promote accountability for students
  • Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet the different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed
  • Differentiate learning for students with special needs
  • Participate in and contributes to programs and activities that enhance Prospect Ridge Academy outside of instructional hours
  • Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. required
  • Business or Social Studies Endorsement required
  • Current Colorado Teaching License preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery
  • Commitment to Core Knowledge curriculum;
  • Commitment to the implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Reporting
This position reports to the Middle School Principal.

Working Conditions
Work is occasionally regularly performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes exposure to moderate and sometimes loud noise. This highly public position provides contact with students, staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, and parents. Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $44,000.00 - $58,500.00 per year
