Job Description
Come join the Technical Accounting Implementation team! This is an exciting, high-performing new team designed to work directly with the business and partnering with them for the accounting analysis and implementation of new products and transactions. The candidate will not only be performing GAAP/IFRS research, but will also work to identify, document, and communicate all applicable data flows, accounting entries, SEC and Regulatory Reporting requirements, and controls for these new products and transactions. This is a rare opportunity to exercise technical accounting acumen, operational accounting acumen, communication skills, project management skills, and ultimately earn a “seat at the table” with a dynamic, growing company. This is a highly visible role responsible for developing relationships across the Company. This individual will support ongoing structuring and documentation of various accounting implementation initiatives and instill a business-focused and control-oriented mindset during implementation activities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as a global subject matter expert contact for US GAAP and IFRS guidance on accounting implementation.
  • Develop relationships across the Bank and thus earning a seat at the table with the Treasury business early in the process to ensure that they are equipped to understand the accounting implications.
  • Provide strategic advisory services to the business as it relates to the structuring, form and booking of transactions to enable them to achieve their desired outcome while ensuring compliance with GAAP / IFRS under the appropriate control environment.
  • Partner and coordinate cross-functionally to understand business transactions and effectively communicate accounting items to various departments throughout the Company.
  • Partner with operations teams to define key system and data needs related to accounting implementation.
  • Partner with Global Controllership, Finance, Tax, and SEC and Regulatory Reporting teams to ensure impacts of accounting implementation are reflected in financial statements, disclosures, and investor relations materials as required.
  • Produce documentation of the new product or transaction in an accounting memo and socialize the memo with various functions to ensure it is complete with regards to SEC and Regulatory disclosure considerations, SOX impacts, tax impacts and data and system impacts from an operational perspective.
  • Develop presentations tailored to stakeholders at various levels and business functions regarding impacts of external and internal accounting factors on financial statements.
  • Lead technical discussions with the external auditors.
  • Support post implementation reviews of new products and transactions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Develop Playbooks, Cheat Sheets, Q&As to support the business in understanding the accounting implications for routine transactions with the aim of driving standardization.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Policy team to develop and deliver technical accounting training to business partners by layering in practical, implementation-related learnings.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to support the plan for continuous improvement within the Accounting organization (in terms of controls, processes, and policies).
Professional Experience/Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience, preferably a combination between a major public accounting firm and large financial institutions and is a high-energy finance professional who thrives in a high-performance, fast-paced environment. In addition, the individual will possess the following:
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, ideally with regards to the Banking industry.
  • Practical Treasury related experience in a sophisticated environment including exposure to some or all of the following: Asset/Liability Management, Funding, Capital Management, Liquidity, Foreign Exchange, Forecasting, Derivatives, ASC 815 (FAS 133) Hedge Accounting, Analytics, SEC Disclosures, Legal Entity Management, Transfer Pricing, LIBOR transition
  • Exposure to complex financial products such as: interest rate swaps, cross-currency swaps, FX swaps, mortgage-backed securities, sovereign debt, options, swaptions and other structured transactions
  • Comfort with large data sets, valuation techniques, mathematical and statistical models, market risk management and operational risk management concepts, amortization calculations.
  • Experience with systems migrations, integrations and digitization initiatives.
  • Strength in researching, understanding, and succinctly explaining complex transactions.
  • Advanced ability to research technical issues in accounting literature and to document analysis in a thorough, but readable format.
  • A high level of financial and analytical skills across multiple areas of responsibility, including all GAAP matters, Regulatory Accounting Principles, and a familiarity with IFRS.
  • Strong strategic and execution skills with ability to influence, collaborate, and work across the Finance organization.
  • Ability to develop and adhere to project plans, direct resources and manage multiple, changing priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of financial transactions flow and their financial statement impact.
  • The ability to influence, collaborate, and work across the organization.
  • Ability to interface with external stakeholders including external auditors and regulators.
  • A highly organized individual who is disciplined in the oversight of details while maintaining the big picture perspective.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills. Able to tailor communication style and message to audience, including technical and non-technical audiences and all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional, high-growth environment, and to lead and drive complex initiatives.
  • Candidate must possess at least an undergraduate degree in accounting and/or business administration.
  • CPA or equivalent designation required.
Travel
Primarily work from home, with occasional travel to hub offices in NYC, Phoenix, Charlotte, or Santa Clara
