The Technical Engineer improves and develops products and processes based on customer requirements. They are also responsible for staying abreast of customer needs by participation, and by reporting findings in customer focused meetings. Finally, they also work to develop and implement trials in the assigned production area(s). This includes:

  • Discussing the trial plan with the appropriate personnel including the corporate product steward, the Fibers Division Technical Director, Plant 8S Plant Manager, Plant 8S HS&E Manager, Plant 8S Technical Manager, and the Plant 8S production area leadership team.
  • Entering the sample yarn request (SYR) into the appropriate computer-based system, writing a trial plan, getting approval for the trial plan by obtaining signatures from the appropriate personnel including the HS&E Manager, the appropriate Department Manager, the Technical Manager, the Production Control Manager, and communicating the trial plan to appropriate production area personnel to ensure effective implementation of the trial.
  • Scheduling the trial with the appropriate area and production planning, entering product specifications into all systems necessary to manufacture, pack, grade, and ship the trial material, and implementing the trial plan.
  • Evaluating the trial results using Six Sigma methodologies, generating a trial summary report, including distribution of the trial summary report to appropriate personnel, and entering trial information into the SYR system to maintain an effective record of the trial results.
  • Ensuring the Plant 8S QE Manager has the product specifications and results available so the trial product may be released and communicating the appropriate shipping information to the Plant 8S Production Control Manager.
  • Observing the processing of trial material at our customer’s plant, as appropriate.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Completes the appropriate documents to procure trial materials. This includes providing equipment drawings or specifications to ensure the vendor’s product(s) meets the performance requirements of the trial, and completing purchase requisitions to obtain the necessary trial materials.
  • Stays current with the latest developments and technologies.
  • Evaluates new processes and equipment as requested.
  • Completes weekly audits including area safety audit and ASA.
  • Participates in Plant 8S communication meetings including the Monday and Friday morning meetings.

Other

  • Performs all job duties using safe work methods.
  • Complies with Corporate Policies, SMS procedures, and S.A.F.E. System procedures
  • Arranges Contractor Safety Orientation for contractors, as needed.
  • Completes Confidentiality Agreements, as needed.
  • Troubleshoots production processes and/or equipment to improve performance using systematic, methodical problem-solving skills including statistical process control and Six Sigma tools.
  • Coordinates maintenance work to eliminate the root cause of process and/or equipment issues.
  • Participates in Plant 8S SPC process and reviews.
  • Maintains good housekeeping as required in designated work area.
  • Actively participates in the Quality P.R.I.D.E. Process and Behavioral Based Safety.

Requirements:

Four year degree required

Must possess good interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leader-ship skills.

Preferred: - Engineering degree, Chemical Engineer preferred.

Minimum six plus months in a manufacturing environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,000.00 - $99,000.00 per year
