We are seeking to hire a passionate Technical Writer that will turn technical tribal knowledge into polished user education content. This role will be converting complex configuration into white papers/case studies, which breakdown the overall solution into easy-to-follow steps. The selected person for this position will genuinely enjoy explaining complex technical problems to less technical people. We are looking for someone to be a pro at technical reverse engineering and problem solving. You try to solve problems yourself before asking for help from others.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Converting complex configuration into white papers/case studies, which breakdown the overall solution into easy-to-follow steps.
  • Write tutorials that explain core concepts and tools in the Onit platform.
  • Develop release notes
  • Develop and document processes for both technical and non-technical staff
  • Write information about a product or service to suit the needs and tasks of a specific user
  • Where necessary, coordinate a team of writers to ensure alignment of objectives and deliveries
  • Define and analyze the target audiences for a complex documentation project, to understand the business environment and to identify information requirements and knowledge gaps.
  • Organize the information so that it is easy to navigate when published online or in online help.
  • Publish the information in a format suited for the information (HTML, PDF, online help).
  • Review and revise information for accuracy, relevance, and consistency.
  • Ensure that the information is reviewed by subject matter experts and signed off for publication.
  • Be an advocate for the user when designing and developing information about products and services.
  • Work with global teams (such as IT, Customer Success, Acceptance Testing, and Product Management) to ensure that the information is delivered on time.
  • Write technical documentation for internal or external developer audiences, such as API reference docs and developer guides.
  • Design and organize documentation sets for new APIs and developer products.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Manage complex documentation projects.
  • Assist with the development of educational materials such as videos and/or visual quick starts.

Qualifications and Skills

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience, such as technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing including experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.
  • Experience with source code written in Ruby, Java, C++, Python and/or JavaScript is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with a fast-paced enterprise technology development environment is preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
