We are currently seeking to hire a Test Pad Technician (Engineering Technician III) in support of the Navy’s Weapons Survivability Lab (WSL) at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, CA. SA-TECH is helping ensure the DoD is provided mission-effective survivable air platforms now, and in the future, and the WSL is the Navy’s field activity for weapons systems non-nuclear survivability, weapons lethality, and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) and conducts survivability testing for all three major services. WSL also provides resources for rapid innovative solutions to unique prototyping needs of the Navy fleet.
In this role, you will perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety on project test articles such as aerospace vehicles, propulsion systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, electrical systems, airframe and related structural/mechanical components, flight controls and related sub-systems, and weapons systems. You will also assist in the test and evaluation of aircraft survivability technology. You’d perform recurring work independently and your work will be reviewed for technical adequacy and conformity to instructions.
Some typical duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform as a member of project work team on test site and project test article preparations and setup, modification, and teardown.
  • Conduct project tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures.
  • Operate WSL special test support equipment and systems unique to the WSL.
  • Perform qualification, acceptance, and pre-test operational checks on project test articles prior to test execution.
  • Perform qualification, acceptance, and calibration tests of test support equipment.
  • Perform modifications to existing project test article systems and structural test simulator assemblies or construct new systems to achieve test simulation requirements.
  • Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, test plans, and technical publications.
  • Perform modifications to test sites, support equipment, and systems.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work environment.

Work Conditions:

  • Conditions will vary but you must be capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0°F - 120°F.
  • Position will include 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, unassisted.
  • Overtime will be required.

Requirements:Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Formal military, trade school, or equivalent on-the-job training commensurate with duties.
  • Practical knowledge of mathematics and science, or engineering related to duties.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, with a practical knowledge of structural systems.
  • Aircraft re-work and/or repair experience preferred.
  • Must be skilled with precision hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Must have ability to interpret engineering drawings, test plans, and program requirements.
  • Must be capable of developing modifications for aircraft and weapons systems such that the program requirements are satisfied without jeopardizing safety of operations.
  • Must possess an ability to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff at all levels of effort.
  • Experience working at a government site/facility a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service required.
  • Prior forklift experience or ability to obtain forklift license required.
  • Must work well with others, as part of a team.
  • Current CA Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
