Job Description Summary

GE Energy Connections’ Power Conversion Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various renewables, industry, marine, and Oil & Gas applications. Typical scope includes MV & LV drives, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.

The Test & Repair Manager role is considered a mid-career role within the business and expected to be an individual of broad technical capability across a range of products. The successful candidate will be responsible for the test & repair department’s growth, technical development, execution of a wide range of product. Quality control by tests to ensure proper wiring and functional operation of products and sub systems. The testing, inspection, failure analysis and reporting of failure will be key to the role. The successful candidate shall also oversee LOTO training, test equipment calibration and laboratory access management.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Hands on repair & testing of LV & MV power electronic modules and sub-assemblies.
  • Support engineering in the development of test procedures generically and for specific projects.
  • Completion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all testing.
  • Hands on testing and troubleshooting of product manufactured in the factory consisting of variable frequency drives, motor protection panels, automation systems.
  • QA and management of all test documentation artifacts.
  • Support R&D with reviews of development of product.
  • Manage the test and repair technicians including hiring, retention, training, and typical managerial functions.
  • Perform testing and troubleshooting activities at manufacturing locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.
  • Provide support to engineering teams on project design.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering (ideally with power electronics emphasis) or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years engineering experience or 10 years field service experience.
  • Power electronic engineering/field service experience.
  • Medium voltage experience.
  • Experience with panel testing and equipment validation to ensure quality and functionality.
  • Familiar with test cell set up & management.
  • Ability to determine proper power and instrumentation needs for testing a wide variety of equipment.
  • Familiar with panel testing to ensure correct wiring of panels.
  • Familiar with component testing and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with PLC programming, including ladder and function block programming.
  • Familiar with testing of a wide range of drive product including AC & DC drives, switchgear, automation equipment.
  • Familiar with the use of test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, metering etc.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to travel

Desired Characteristics

  • Familiar with integrated control schemes with switchgear, protection, PLCs, HMI’s, and Drives.
  • Field Service and Commissioning experience with GE Power Conversion product drives (MV3000, MV7000 or SD7000).
  • Minimum 10 years of field service and/or commissioning experience.
  • Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgment.
  • Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Good personal organizational skills.
  • Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable.
  • Anticipates customer needs and measures processes and performance through the customer’s eyes.
