The Opportunity:
UCF’s School of Performing Arts seeks a Theater Arts Technician II to join their team. This position serves as the Scene Shop Manager, teach lab classes, and supervise student crews and over hire labor. Additionally, they work at the direction of the Technical Director to build, install, and then remove scenery for departmental productions. Some nights and weekends are required. Fine and Performing Arts Professionals provide the university with all aspects of services related to fine and performing arts productions. Develop, design, and produce performances, exhibits, and screenings of artistic material. Train and instruct students on the management of theaters and arts venues. Provide technical instruction and expertise on the design and creation of art within a variety of mediums.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the scene shop student staff in building, installing, and striking scenery for departmental productions. Supervise student labor, paid student labor, and over hire labor.
  • Teach and supervise Stagecraft 1 Lab and Stagecraft 2 Lab classes. Up to 8 sections per semester.
  • Serve as the Scene Shop Manager. Oversee maintenance of shop and keep standard supplies stocked. Supervise student crews and over hire labor assigned to build the shows.
  • Assist Technical Director with development of special and complex mechanical theatrical effects for productions and training purposes.
  • Attend all spacing and technical rehearsals for theatre productions. This includes 7 shows per year, with each show requiring weekend and nighttime hours.
  • Execute welding and other special practices when required.
  • All other tasks as assigned by Technical Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with theatre carpentry, technology, welding, fabrication, and/or automation
  • Teaching experience
