This is a seasonal supervisory position at the Three Oaks Recreation Area. Assists with the daily operation and supervision of the marina, parking gate, and beach gate.

Work is normally performed without direct supervision, and an individual must be able to exercise independent judgment in meeting various situations. This position reports to the Operations Manager and supervises seasonal employees. Will function as a rotating Manager on Duty for all activities at the Three Oaks Recreation Area.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Assists with the planning, organizing and scheduling of marina, beach, and parking gate work shifts.

Assists with the supervision of employees engaged in retail, general operation, and customer service functions of the Three Oaks Recreation Area. Ensures efficient fee collections, proper cash control procedures, and daily cash out procedure for all aspects of the operation.

Operates support craft on the lake in response to calls related to batteries, motors and enforcement of safety policies. Monitors lake and weather conditions, via observation and weather tracking applications, in order to warn patrons of potential safety concerns. Assists lifeguard staff in the event of a lake emergency.

Assists in performance evaluations of employees; trains and instructs personnel in job practices and methods of work.

Assists with supervision of employees, coordinates and inspects work activities to ensure that schedules are met and that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with standard operating practices and procedures.

Assists with the coordination and supervision of all functions at the marina, parking gate, and beach gate. Coordinates the opening and closing of the marina, parking gate, and beach.

Assists with the coordination of the movement of boats in and out of the water. Coordinates the transportation of boat batteries. Coordinates the attachment of marina supplies, including motors and batteries, to various boats.

Assists with first aid and/or water rescue situations throughout the facility.

Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the beach, spray park and playground area.

Assists in performing and documenting regular water testing.

Assists with the collection, issuance and care of all beach and marina rental equipment.

Assists with the planning, development and evaluation of public and employee safety issues at the Three Oaks Recreation Area. Regularly inspects the grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure safe conditions and reports deficiencies to the appropriate staff. Enforces facility rules.

Informs the Operations Manager regarding any Three Oaks Recreation Area operation or facility issues. Receives and reports customer complaints and suggestions. Reports problems and regularly makes recommendations for change or problem resolution.

Assists with cash management and record keeping.

Assists with documenting information or preparing simple records on activities, injuries, or equipment.

Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.

Coordinates and responds to work requests and inquiries by City personnel and the public; coordinates work as necessary.

Answers phone calls, responds effectively, and forwards information to appropriate staff.

Participates in training sessions.

Properly executes opening and closing procedures.

Assists in cleaning of the recreation area, including beach house, boat house, and parking attendant area.

Follows safe work practices.


Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent, with previous experience in staff supervision, training, inventory and cash control and the ability to demonstrate leadership in facility operations.

Knowledge of management practices and supervisory methods and techniques.

Knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards of the work.

Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Experience operating a variety of watercraft including outboard/inboard motors and paddle craft.

Must attend and will be held accountable for information presented at all required In-Service Trainings.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, contractors, other departments, subordinates, and the public.

Ability to work in all elements of weather including very hot conditions, wet conditions and sunny conditions.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to effectively use City computer systems and programs specific to assignment

Supplemental information

Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Within a reasonable time following employment, must successfully complete and obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications.

Upon employment, must complete the lake patrol boat and water safety course.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position will regularly work in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
