The Karen Interpreter/Translator is responsible for facilitating communication between Karen and English-speaking employees. This position will require the ability to interpret accurately in both the simultaneous and consecutive modes. Listening/comprehending and speaking from English to Karen and vice versa is required. English reading and writing skills are a plus. The position will require working in multiple department settings across hospitality, gaming, recreation, food services, environmental services, housekeeping and more. The position will follow a needs-based full-time schedule and will require the ability to work overtime, and on-call as needed. To ensure success you need to process and impart information swiftly, and relay intentions, emotions, and tone in your interpretations. Preferred applicants have outstanding problem-solving skills, professionalism, confidentiality and can work to a high level of accuracy.

1. Provide language services and facilitate effective communication between Leaders, team members, and guests of ONE. Interpret between a wide range of people with diverse voices, accents, speaking tempos and personalities.

2. Honor policies and ethical codes to ensure sensitive and confidential information remains secure and protected.

3. Relay concepts, emotions, intentions, and ideas between languages. Impart thought, purpose, spirit, and tone of speakers from source language into target language and vice versa.

4. Attend conferences and meetings and act as official translator to mediate discussion.

5. Convert written materials from other language as identified by appropriate parties into English or vice versa, such as information packets, publications, guidebooks, web pages, trainings, or letters.

6. Receive and submit assignments for translation and interpretation electronically, interact with a request system and Outlook calendar to manage times/dates/locations and other details associated with providing services based on needs.

7. Apply computer-assisted translation as needed.

8. Informs supervisor immediately when interpreting sensitive and/or reportable issues.

9. Interpret both technical terminology and conversational language.

10. Read aloud documents in a language other than that in which they were written.

11. Identify terms and words with conflicting meanings to determine which alternative provides clarity and reflects the original purpose of the message.

12. Verify, modify and edit translations to compensate for discrepancies in technical terms and to guarantee that the final content is consistent with original material.

13. Consult dictionaries, encyclopedias and terminology compilations to remain educated and current with the meaning of words and phrases.

14. Providing interpretations of questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations and other forms of verbal communication.

15. Interpret with no additions or omissions.

16. Ability to work collaboratively with various groups of people.

17. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

1. Proven proficiency in the English and Karen language; comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. A proficiency test will be required.

2. Ability to translate/interpret from English to Karen, as well as requested Karen into English.

3. Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivity, and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

4. Ability to provide assess regional and accent differences to find ways of communicating.

5. Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.

6. Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.

7. Experience working in partnership with leaders and colleagues

8. Flexible approach to working hours to support a multi-site, 24/7 operation, with occasional programming or services required on nights, holidays, and/or weekends.

9. Must have independent and adequate transportation to frequently travel between work sites.

10. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word.

11. Proven experience with HR and engagement platforms (Ultimate software a plus).

12. Ability to adhere to a strict confidentiality policy.

13. Excellent organizational, evaluation, assessment, collaboration, teamwork, relationship management and decision-making skills.

14. Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.

15. Proven ability to set and manage priorities, manage competing demands and to provide timely response to urgent issues.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $26.00 per hour
