Responsibilities/Tasks:
Strips bed, clean and wipe down stretchers as well as equipment including cables, bedside tables, IV pumps,countertops and computers.- Discard prior supplies and empty trashcans if needed as well as disposing of bodily fluids properly in dirty utility (To includeemptying bedside commodes) and ensure room clear of debris on floor.
- Return unused supplies at direction of clinical staff
- Neatly make bed and readies room for the next patient.
- Updates white boards.
- Under direction of charge nurse or staging team leader, escorts assigned patient from waiting room to the treatment room(Patient to be called by first and last name as well as verification of patient arm band).
- Accesses and utilizes electronic medical record to view patients awaiting room placement and length of stay.
- Assist patient onto stretcher and directs patient to change into hospital gown as appropriate.
- Appropriately readies room for mental health patients (“Psych Safe”) to include removing oxygen tank from under stretcher.
- Monitor EPIC track board to identify and anticipate those patients that are being discharged as well as anticipate the movement of admitted patients to inpatient bed assignment
- Escorts patients and families throughout the department as well as to inpatient units as directed by the RN.
- Communication with staff once a patient has arrived in treatment room.
- Responds to call lights, patient requests and reports to nurse.
- Ready white discharge folders during down time.
- Stock blanket warmers, dietary station and linen cabinets around each pod.
- Frequent rounding in assigned area to ensure that all rooms are clean and ready
- Assist with patient comfort measures – such as offering blankets and pillows.
- Utilizes comfort cart as directed by charge nurse
What You Need to Be Successful:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
2. Must be able to read and write English
3. Current CPR certification required or obtained prior to providing direct patient care
