This position does not provide a full-time telework option. Candidate must be willing to work on-site in Lexington Park, MD.
Primary Responsibilities:
The primary focus of this position includes development of project documentation templates, reinforcing documentation standards/conformity, and review/editing of technical documentation for formal customer delivery within established deadlines.
The technical writer will support the development of draft technical documentation for internal project review by subject matter experts and final review by customer.
Responsible for supporting the development, update, coordination, and management of technical documentation; review of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) for multiple Technical Data Packages (TDP), and training and assigning tasks to personnel assisting in the documentation process.
Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Technical Writing.
- Primary job function will include exercising independent judgment.
- Work will include general supervision from and working directly with technical leads, project engineers, trainers, and program managers.
Tasks Performed:
Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to research, review, and understand technical information and engineering drawings.
Formatting of technical data packages/documentation to ensure alignment with industry/project standards.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
JUNIOR: A Junior level person within a labor category has less than 3 years’ experience related to the functional duties for that labor category and a BA/BS degree. A Junior level person is responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions.
JOURNEYMAN (Mid): A Journeyman level person within a labor category has 3 to 10 years of experience related to the functional duties for that labor category and a BA/BS degree. A Journeyman level person typically performs all functional duties independently.
Allowable Experience/Education Substitutions: Six (6) years' additional relevant work experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree. Associates Degree plus four (4) years' relevant work experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.
Other Desired Experience:
- Ability to communicate well in team environments.
- Good organizational skills.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
