Job description
- Assemble and maintain patient charts, keeping them in order with all forms properly identified with patient identification, date/time on a continual basis according to the hospital policy with 100% accuracy. Assist the RN, MD and SW staff with filling out and processing any necessary documents (consent forms, physician orders, requisitions, etc) when needed. Receives or sends faxes and routes to appropriate personnel. Assists in coordination of patient discharges and transfers. Maintains accurate patient & staffing information on daily Census Sheet Assures unit is stocked with sufficient non-stock supplies, forms, etc. through appropriate ordering processes.
- Provides accurate and timely shift to shift communication. Complies with infection control policies & OSHA standards. Greets all visitors, physicians and hospital employees in a polite and friendly manner. Promotes a positive, friendly, professional environment dedicated to assisting the patient, visitors, physicians and staff.
- Demonstrates willingness to float/be on call as appropriate to hospital and unit needs. Attends and participates in departmental meetings and in-service education. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate procedures in working with Protected Health. Must have proven ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in the handling of privileged information by undisputed compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to multitask. Must be computer-literate with good typing and data entry skills. Maintenance and updating daily census sheet including, but not limited to, diagnosis, court date, tx plan date, tx plan goals, etc. Communication with Clerk of Court regarding scheduled court cases. Maintenance of Communication Book and signature process. Faxes discharge documents to outpatient and primary care providers. Processes visitors including explaining unit rules and metal detector scanning. Monitors referrals and contacts referral sources for missing documentation. Patient documentation to include meals and vital signs. Assists with admission and discharge process including chart disposition, notifications to affected departments, and updating documentation. Completes daily flow sheet audits. Answers unit doorbell and assists with response as. Obtains Medical records from prior hospitalizations. Searches, inventories, and documents patient belongings post admission. Performs and reports FSBS. Stock supplies and snacks for distribution to patients. Performs other duties as assigned.

High school graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.

Clerical experience, preferably in health care field.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association required.

CPI- required within one year of date of hire

Commensurate with education, training, and experience. Knowledge of Behavioral Health terminology. Must have computer and typing skills. Must be accurate, organized, and able to handle stressful situations. Ability to successfully complete all required training for Behavioral Health employees.
