The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center has an immediate opening for a part-time Utility Worker to join the Café team. This is a daytime Monday through Friday position with pay range from $15.50-$17.50 an hour. The Utility Worker, under general supervision, will be responsible to maintain a flow of clean equipment, flatware, glassware, etc., as well as maintain kitchen clean work areas and equipment for the cafe. The Utility Worker will also need to receive food orders and make sure they are stored and rotated properly. The Utility Worker may prepare various foods for cooking or serving.

Responsibilities:

• Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots or pans
• Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in proper storage areas
• Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition
• Clean or prepare various foods for cooking or serving
• Stock supplies, such as food or utensils in storage areas, walk-ins or on the line
• Sweep and scrub floors, walls and ceilings
• Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas
• Receive, store and rotate supplies and food deliveries
• Breakdown all kitchen equipment and clean on a weekly basis
• Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Excellent communication skills
• Work calmly and effectively under pressure
• Must have problem solving abilities
• Be self-motivated and organized
• Able to stand or walk for entire length of a shift
• Able to work long periods of time without a break
• Ability to handle multiple assignments at once
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs at a time

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen preferred
