    JOB TITLE: Mechanic I

    JOB GOAL:
    Provide mechanical repairs to all School District vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner and maintain all equipment and the workplace in a clean and safe environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Mechanical experience preferred
    • Proficiency in computer applications, writing skills, applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations
    • Be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake endorsements
    • Be able to pass a School Bus Drivers physical examination, per Federal and State Department of Transportation Laws, including substance abuse screening
    • Must be able to pass a Fingerprint and background clearance, obtain IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    • Must have an excellent attendance record
    • ASE Certification preferred
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 M/261 Days; 40 hours per week, may require longer hours
    COMPENSATION: $20.52 - $24.22
    BENEFITS: As per District policy
    REPORTS TO: General supervision is received from the Fleet Manager and Director of Transportation
    CLASSIFICATION: Classified Hourly; Non-exempt
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
    • Provide assistance to District mechanic staff in the maintenance of all District vehicles.
    • Safeguard all tools, parts, and supplies.
    • Learn all aspects of mechanical repair services for all vehicles.
    • Prepare and make available all requistioned vehicles.
    • Serve as substitute bus driver.
    • Operate all vehicles in a safe, efficient manner and transport only authorized students and personnel.
    • Communicate with Director, drivers, and District staff in a professional manner.
    • Cooperate with supervisory staff in basic checkout and emergency procedures.
    • Provide departmental reports as requested.
    • Compelte written reports and discuss with Director all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations.
    • Willing to work split shifts, if necessary, as determined by the Director of Transportation.
    • Attend mandatory department meetings
    • Maintain confiedentiality.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
