Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency in Boulder, Colorado is looking for experienced Critical Care and Nephrology Technicians to join our growing hospital.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Triage phone calls, appointments, or transfers, as necessary. Reviewing medical records to assist in those triages
  • Perform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and procedures
  • Understand most major illnesses and the appropriate treatment for common life threatening conditions
  • General nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and administer nutrition. Calculation of medication doses and formulation of continuous rate infusions (CRI) of medications.
  • Perform general venipuncture, placement of peripheral/central/arterial catheters, urinary catheters, and nasal cannulas.
  • Perform emergency procedures including but not limited to resuscitation with colloids/crystalloid fluids, establish and maintenance of open airway intubation, oxygen administration via ET tube/nasal/flow-by/O2 cage, administration of pharmacological agents under veterinary supervision
  • Anesthesia induction, intubation, surgical skin preparation, anesthesia monitoring and recovery of surgical patients for minor or major procedures
  • Acquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs, preparation of blood films to perform manual differentials and platelet counts, running various chemistries, Coag tests, and collect, evaluate, and report in-house diagnostics (urinalysis, WBC differentials, cytology, etc).
  • Admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and assisting with appointment scheduling
  • Cleaning, stocking, general organization, and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies


Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology with a willingness to pursue further education equaling Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician Specialist (ACVECCT-VTS) status.
  • Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform veterinary medical procedures (i.e., administer CPR, draw blood, administer medications and fluids, and assess and triage patients.)
  • Ability to communicate well with other technicians and doctors regarding the needs of the patients
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with little or no supervision

Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making effective decisions

Hiring Range $23-$30/hour
