The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.
Over the past 24 months, the organization has grown to a team of over 300 volunteers working virtually across Canada, the United States, and another half dozen countries worldwide to further our mission. To continue this trajectory, we are now searching for an experienced, executive-level program management leader, as we set out to build a variety of resources to serve pets and their family. About the position:
As our Vice President, Community Management, volunteer, you will be responsible for the business unit working towards creating better outcomes for pets through a service funnel of resources, which the organization is planning to deliver through a range of short, mid, and long-term objectives aimed at improving the care of household companion animals. The Vice President will lead existing initiatives as well as the continual effort to evaluate and develop new programs and services, managed under their guidance. The VP will lead the operational delivery of the PCF service funnel through their department, providing the leadership, support and tools required to stay on schedule, while providing an unparalleled experience to the public.
The position requires the incumbent to be an exceptionally gifted and diplomatic taskmaster, who has a proven history of maintaining momentum and achieving success in a challenging environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the business unit planning and implementation of “public resource” programs, services, and activities, while being responsible for the entire PCF service funnel.
- Directs the day-to-day operation and administration of department services in accordance with organization goals and objectives; oversees program coordination and logistics; prepares necessary reports; resolves problems and makes changes to accommodate changing priorities and needs.
- Directly selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates senior personnel, while supporting their senior leaders as they recruit, train, supervise and evaluate teams of middle managers, supervisors, and contributors within the business unit.
- Works with HR Business Partners to ensure business unit staffing needs are satisfied; ensures work assignments and work schedules effectively meet program needs; resolves personnel problems and reviews personnel actions to ensure compliance with organization standards in our service to the public.
- Provides senior-level oversight and mentoring to their team to ensure the workflow and timelines are optimized, while developing the necessary administrative paperwork, records, and filing systems required to support the effort required to execute on the organization's service objectives.
- Directs the coordination of resource development between department units, and collaboratively with other stakeholders across the organization.
- Directs, administers, and evaluates the training programs, SOPs, policies, and guidelines for training of all departments and teams in accordance with program/service goals.
- Liaises with Marketing and Communications leadership in the promotional activities of all programs and/or services, including planning and development of roll-out strategies.
- Evaluates effectiveness of program services and policies through the collection and analysis of program data; identifies problems and institutes changes or makes recommendations for major changes.
- Develops budget recommendations and manages approved program budgets; makes decisions regarding appropriateness of expenditures and prepares budget reports and projections; if required by the program and if delegated by executive team, may generate income, set fees for services, and oversees billing and accounting procedures where applicable.
- When applicable, keeps informed of and monitors compliance with federal or provincial/state licensing or regulation requirements and standards.
About You:
You are a senior leader and strategic thinker, with a strong project/program management background and proven track record of successful program delivery. You are ready to accept the challenge of working in a growing, dynamic volunteer organization to advance important program initiatives by working in close collaboration with many different teams and departments. You are motivated to lead a virtual team and to mentor, coach and effectively transfer expertise to others. The incumbent will have a proven track record of successful management and direction, taking great pride in their learned skill of being a savvy diplomatic taskmaster. You have:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in business or a relevant field preferred
- 10+ years of proven experience in successful and complex program management delivery, with 5+ years of management experience
- Experience in senior-level leadership of large, distributed teams.
- Proven project management and organizational skills, specifically managing multiple, concurrent projects.
- Possess strong analytical skills with process orientation.
- Excellent conceptual and critical thinking skills and sound judgment, with strategic orientation and ability to perform tactically, as required.
- Proven experience dealing with ambiguous situations and producing a consistent result with varied input.
- A can/must-do attitude and attention to operational details.
- Ability to develop relationships and partnerships at all levels of the organization, exhibit strong leadership and influencing skills.

- Expectations regarding a time commitment are in the range of 8-10 hours per week on average
