Title: Vice President Sales and Marketing

FLSA: Exempt


Incentive/Bonus Plan: 35% Bonus Target in the Profit Participation Plan


Reports to:
Chief Executive Officer

Marketing Directors; Managers; Individual Contributors; Consultants


Summary/Objective:
Responsible for developing objectives for marketing policies, programs, and activities of the brand to facilitate sales and transaction growth. Develops marketing and advertising strategies designed to meet corporate objectives and monitor performance against those goals. Directs all marketing, advertising and public relations activities; coordinates all product market support; and directs development and control of long-range marketing and sales plans.

Essential Functions:

  • Creates, leads, and responsible for the achievement of the sales and marketing strategies focused on increasing sales and transactions.
  • Annually participates in the crafting of the marketing plan and in conjunction with finance, approves all aspects related to sales and marketing including positioning, deployment, strategies, tactics, pricing, revenues, segment mix, and the marketing line-by-line budget.
  • Manages a large volume of work under tight deadlines with multiple constituencies and decision points.
  • Manages a $30 million budget as outlined by the Company.
  • Establishes marketing and sales priorities; assesses marketing and sales opportunities with appropriate research to contribute to developing planning and strategies.
  • Maintains overall awareness of marketing conditions including but not limited to operational readiness, competitor activity/pricing, economic health, demographic shifts, etc. in order to recommend and implement the most effective marketing initiatives.
  • Effectively communicates strategic direction and gains alignment with all necessary stakeholders.
  • Secures approval of goals, objectives, policies, and programs for marketing and sales activities; periodically evaluates and reports results.
  • Participates in the development and execution of long-range corporate strategy for the brand.
  • Contributes to overall business strategy through attendance of management meetings.
  • Oversees and approves the development and implementation of marketing communications, including advertising, market research, and product marketing within context of corporate marketing communication.
  • Ensures all communication is consistent with the brand position and all other components of the brand strategy.
  • Oversees and approves the creation, design, and distribution of in-store creative including point of purchase, in-store signage, menus, free standing insert materials, and television commercials.
  • Completes post analysis and briefings of all marketing initiatives and identifies success or failure of programs and modifies for future consideration.
  • Adapts total quality techniques to management and problem solving in responsible areas.
  • Develops and maintains a close working relationship with Culinary and Operations Services, to assist in maintaining a smooth, efficient new product development process.
  • Successfully manages the partnership between the Company and creative, media, and research agencies and ensures integration between departments and these agencies so that all are involved and aligned.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure all marketing initiatives are properly tested and timelines are met.
  • Collaborates with PR agency to develop and execute tactics to support ongoing promotions and strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and communicates strategic briefs internally and to the agencies to facilitate process and documentation.
  • Develops, directs, and coordinates all activities of the marketing organization in accomplishing the goals and objectives within corporate policies.
  • Directs and plans changes in marketing organization required for achievement of marketing objectives.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises marketing department staff.
  • Provides clear and consistent direction to the members of the Marketing team.
  • Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates responsibilities to the Marketing team to ensure operational excellence.
  • Evaluates and performs performance review assessments of staff and assists with career development.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is responsible for the hiring, training, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of the Marketing team members.


Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must have the ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions and be attentive to details.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position and typical office hours are between 7:00am to 6:00pm.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • 10 years’ experience in a strategic and tactical role serving as a catalyst and leader.
  • 15 years’ experience in marketing management.


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • MBA.
  • 5 years of experience of domestic and international Company-type distribution channels.
  • 5 years of experience in the restaurant industry.
  • 3 years of international experience for future brand growth opportunities.
  • 3 years of experience agency management.
