Essential Functions:
The VP/GM Operations works with the Howmet Fastening Systems global operations team to improve efficiency and productivity through process improvements in manufacturing. The position will develop and execute the manufacturing strategy, will be instrumental in optimizing investment and will lead cost reduction strategies. All activities will be driven in support of manufacturing methodologies to serve multiple markets from high volume to custom products.
Responsible for overseeing three US fastener Operations (Carson, Torrance, Tucson).
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- The position will develop and implement the manufacturing strategy for HFS Operations. This role will be key in optimizing investment as well as leading and supporting the comprehensive deployment of globalization strategy.
- Deliver targeted annual productivity improvements. Manage a project pipeline identifying business opportunities that will help drive Operational Excellence, Dramatic Growth, and Productivity.
- Establish sustainable supply chains between globalized sites and the host sites. Ensure the infrastructure and processes are in accordance with HFS practices.
- Develop and document a “best-in-class” structured process for assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations processes. This assessment will include driving operational and profitability metrics and analytics to achieve revenue, EBITDA and cash targets.
- Lead ongoing deployment and implementation of Lean Manufacturing techniques assigned operations and ongoing deployment of Process Productivity initiatives.
- Lead, along with Quality, the reduction of Waste in processes. (scrap, rework, attrition).
- Develop annual manufacturing plan in consultation with other senior-level unit leaders to ensure proper deployment of resources to achieve required levels of production and to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Ensures full compliance with EHS standards, policies, procedures and processes as they apply to area of accountability. Confirms that incidents are thoroughly investigated and that root causes are identified and remedied on a systematic basis. Fosters a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
- Analyzes and directs the preparation of Capital Appropriation Requests to secure required capital equipment for projects meeting or exceeding capital return targets.
- Interfaces directly with key customers, in concert with Sales & Marketing Management and Account Managers to resolve problems related to delivery, quality and other issues. Strives to address customer concerns in a responsive, professional manner while protecting the interests of the Company.
- As a key member of the Operations team, participate in the annual operations strategic planning process including facilities, location & consolidation; strategic sourcing, both global and domestic; operations organization assessment.
- Develops and presents to the senior leadership team organizational, strategic, financial and operational proposals aimed at continually advancing manufacturing effectiveness
- Provides positive leadership. Ensures open communications and responds to employee concerns in an appropriate manner. Seeks to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of people. Deals proactively with substandard performance.
Benefits/Salary:
The position includes competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), excellent 401k matching program, paid holidays and vacation . The salary range for this position is $195K to $292K.
Education:
- BS/BA in Engineering, Business, Finance or related discipline
- Master’s Degree in business discipline preferred
- Lean/QMS concepts and processes
Experience and Background:
- Minimum ten years’ experience overseeing and leading multi-site manufacturing operations within an ISO certified environment with a systematic approach to safety, labor management, quality control, productivity, and cost containment.
- Requires extensive knowledge of progressive manufacturing technologies and engineering methodologies, with experience in areas such as Lean manufacturing.
- Significant experience leading teams and mentoring direct reports.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
