Job Title: VP of Operations

Location: On-Site Coralville, Iowa

Purpose statement:

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for manufacturing operations at the Coralville site supporting the Custom Oligos, NGS and CRISPR business units. A successful candidate defines the overall operations strategy, structure, and processes to ensure customer requirements are met for products for the assigned business units at the Coralville, Iowa site. S/he will work with within the site to drive effective and sustainable processes around Safety, Manufacturing Operations, Quality Control, and Operational employee engagement; partners with supply chain, platform engineering and DBS leaders to optimize flow, drive capacity growth, and support new product introductions.

The VP of Operations plans, organizes, controls, and directs the operation activities at the Coralville site to produce products on-schedule while adhering to quality standards and cost objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with Operations Leadership, Commercial and BU leadership to align and provide consistent leadership to ensure effective and efficient execution of assigned projects and growth initiatives. Drive an engaging team culture through leading the Operations team to achieve delivery of distinctively high-quality products and services; to include performance, reliability, cost, and on-time delivery. Identify and close skill gaps in the Operations teams while also guiding and mentoring.

  • Lead Performance and Development Process for all direct reports, including providing coaching and development opportunities that will allow everyone’s potential to be maximized.

  • Oversee the manufacturing activities of, synthesis, purification, and formulation departments.

  • Develops and monitors performance goals and metrics to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Accountable for promoting and deploying Danaher Business Systems (DBS) to achieve break-through performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Actively manage a DBS kaizen funnel to provide visibility of events, focus on gap closure, and sustainment.

  • Ensures conformance to quality standards by creating and maintaining SW and training strategies.

  • Operations lead into customer corrective actions; point of accountability that corrective actions are at root cause.

  • Ensures that annual performance evaluations/reviews goals are met.

  • Communicates with all levels of peers and management.

  • Ensures workflow for departments are efficient; plans for future growth and improvement.

  • Maintains strong communication with the other manufacturing sites to drive harmonization of processes.

  • Attends or leads calls and meetings with customers regarding processes or products as requested.

Management duties:

  • Maintains and approve timecards and PTO requests, write, and administer annual performance reviews, hires lab personnel when needed, updates job descriptions as needed.

  • Maintains an environment for employees in which they feel like their opinions are valued, their actions make a difference, they understand management’s expectations of their performance, and they have the resources needed to perform their job effectively.

  • Informs employees of the division/company plans and progress.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Sr. VP, Global Operations or other members of executive management.

  • Demonstrates and upholds behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values and delivers the Integrated DNA Technologies experience to customers and other business associates.

Education:

  • BS degree in business, engineering, or other related discipline.

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Management, Operations Management, and/or technical field preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • 10+ years people management experience, directly and indirectly leading organizations of 10 or more individuals, globally.

  • Experience in a diagnotics manufacturing environment highly preferred

  • Candidates must have experience with successful implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of the regulatory and quality requirements for industry and customers.

  • Experience in chemistry or deployment of liquid handling or process automation preferred.

  • Experience within a matrixed, global organization preferred.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Be able and prepared to work with restricted Documents and Technologies.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel (international and domestic) up to 10% in support of project and business development efforts, and in support of professional development.
