Position Summary

The Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development (VPSC) will plan, oversee, and direct all aspects of DCC Propane's efforts to achieve growth through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures (collectively "M&A") by developing, leading and effectively executing the M&A process on behalf of the organization while establishing sound business strategies and maximizing the return on investment on behalf of the organization as a whole.


In this role, you will lead the business planning strategies to identify and take advantage of market, industry and economic opportunities that exist through M&A activity while mitigating risks as we enter new energy sectors and markets throughout North America (NA) and seek to create efficiencies by leveraging scale in existing markets throughout the United States. The position will lead the strategic growth initiatives driven through M&A and validate business opportunities through a comprehensive valuation, transaction evaluation and due diligence process while providing analytical and problem-solving support related to other strategy and growth initiatives in other areas of the organization. Diplomacy, persuasiveness, and transformational leadership qualities are critical to the success of this role.


Core Duties/Key Responsibilities


  • Strategic Planning -
    Leading the annual process to evaluate economic trends and energy industry analysis to develop prioritized strategies to grow our core business and advance the energy transition effectively with our customers. Drive the execution of strategic priorities. Monitor the industry and marketplace to identify and assess key trends that can inform strategy and operational plans. Evaluate competitive opportunities and threats.
  • Growth - Identify and engage with potential targets; manage cross-functional due diligence; lead all aspects of land due diligence in acquisitions and greenfield opportunities; develop and review financial models and valuations, and ability to effectively present analysis of the strategic benefits, opportunities and risks inherent in the potential transaction and then negotiate the deals with support from legal counsel.
  • Analysis - Conduct efficient and thorough analyses including quickly identifying potential benefits, risks, and overall alignment with DCC Propane's strategy to support the evaluation of new M&A opportunities ensuring quality of deliverables to drive outcomes within DCC Propane's prioritized geographies.
  • Land Management - Manage all aspects of land and real estate transactions; whether new land acquisitions, extensions or divestments, including lease negotiation, permitting and zoning.
  • Leadership - Lead a high performing corporate development team; providing training and development to corporate development team and cross-functional team members in M&A due diligence, analysis, financial modeling and presentation. Serve as an active member of the Executive Leadership team providing valuable input to the overall direction and priorities of the company. This position will have frequent interaction and exposure to DCC's executive leadership team in Dublin, Ireland.

Position Qualifications


Experience/Education

Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree; MBA preferred

Fields of Study Preferred: Business, Finance, Mathematics, Economics or Land Management

Required Work Experience:

  • 7+ years of proven work experience in an analytical environment, including but not limited to investment banking, corporate finance, corporate development, or consulting.
  • A strong financial background is required.
  • Previous acquisition experience leading due diligence and negotiations is required.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Microsoft Applications: Extremely proficient (in particular, Excel and PowerPoint)

Additional Technology: High technical capabilities with ability to quickly learn and utilize new technologies

Travel: Ability to travel up to 35%

Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required; skilled at drafting and delivering presentations for all levels of the organization; including acquisition proposal documents

Additional Requirements:

  • Develop relationships and work effectively with internal team members, external resources and counsel, potential acquisition targets, brokers, and other professionals within the DCC group of companies
  • Unquestioned integrity and ability to properly manage confidential processes and information
  • Ability to think through hypothetical situations and concepts and identify, substantiate, and describe strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, both for self and team with ability to allocate and assign resources
  • Expertise in corporate financial analysis, financial statement interpretation, financial systems and general accounting principles
  • Experience working in the M&A lifecycle and delivering on short deadlines
  • Ability to organize and process large amounts of data from multiple sources
  • Previous experience with acquiring and divesting land or buildings a plus
