Position Information


The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Warehouse Technician to perform technical and administrative duties associated with the operation and maintenance of a warehouse and stores management system in the Facilities Management Bureau (FMB) Warehouse.

Specific duties:


  • Supporting the Warehouse inventory and distribution processes using the Facilities Maintenance software (EAM) application;
  • Maintaining manual and automated inventory systems as materials/equipment are ordered, received, and dispensed to customers, including ensuring the efficient storage of materials;
  • Managing availability of materials, parts, and equipment, using supply manuals, catalogs, the Internet, existing vendor contracts and conducting telephone bids;
  • Facilitating purchase approval process and ordering materials using standard purchasing policy, procedures, and the County’s automated financial system;
  • Tracking purchasing requests and ensuring discrepancies on orders are addressed, recommending parts or materials substitution, and downloading reports and data to assist in monitoring the budget;
  • Ordering and delivering supplies/equipment to other county facilities (Courthouse Motor Pool and Arlington County Detention Facility) and performing chemical distribution in inmate areas;
  • Participating on the FMB snow removal team, using snow blowers, and gas-powered snow removal equipment, and a pallet jack to move heavy items; and
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have exceptional customer service and communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, contractors, laborers, engineers, managers, and planners. Along with the ability to coordinate cross functionally with internal stakeholders to provide program implementation data.

Selection Criteria


Minimum:


  • High school diploma/equivalent; and
  • Two (2) years of experience in warehouse operations, including buying, receiving, storing, and issuing supplies/tools, materials, parts, and equipment and/or maintaining the associated records systems.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the educational requirement. Additional education may substitute for up to one year of experience.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Working with a computerized inventory/supply system or Kastle Key System;
  • Using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Access); and
  • Using an automated financial system.

Special Requirements


  • The employee must drive a county vehicle to pick up parts and deliver supplies and authorize Arlington County to obtain or provide a copy of their official driving record. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
  • A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon. successful completion of a background check.
  • Work is performed in a combination of office and outdoors environments. It is performed with extended periods of standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting light to heavy objects and equipment weighing 50 or more pounds on a regular basis.

Additional Information


Work hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Must be available on a regular basis for call-back in emergency situations. Employee is expected to cover shifts for team members that are out of work due to illness, vacations, training, etc.
