OC PUBLIC LIBRARIES
OC Public Libraries is a network of community libraries located in your neighborhood or as near as your computer. Our 33 public branches in 24 cities and unincorporated areas of the County of Orange, as well as a branch for residents of Orangewood Children's Home provide library services to residents throughout the county. OC Public Libraries provides safe and easy access to libraries for the community, offers a broad spectrum of materials in multiple formats, provides the community with the best access to the collection, and delivers knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced staff to support the information needs of the community. THE OPPORTUNITY
Positions assigned to this class are thoroughly familiar with the supply system and perform a variety of detailed tasks concerned with the issuing and receiving of supplies. Some discretion or choice typically is required in applying correct procedures to individual situations. Incumbents participate in heavy work of loading and unloading trucks, moving supplies, and driving vehicles to make pickups and deliveries.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
In addition to the experience and training in the minimum qualifications, the successful candidate will possess a forklift certification.
Technical Expertise
- Familiar with supply, delivery and surplus systems
- Use of shipping and receiving posting machine and software
- Use of a computer, internet concepts, and cameras
- Maintain the warehouse in a clean and orderly fashion
- Accept delivery and prepare items for delivery
- Drive light trucks to deliver materials to branches or other designated locations
- Use of hand truck and/or forklift
- Perform simple repairs and/or routine preventative maintenance
- Possess a good driving record and work independently
- Interacting in a professional and courteous manner
- Anticipating and meeting customer needs in all situations
- Establishing productive and professional relationships with internal and external customers
- Effectively able to accurately and concisely exchange information with others both orally and in writing.
- Ability to interpret, apply and effectively follow oral and written instruction.
- Effectively communicate with supervision, co-workers, and the public
- Safely rearrange bulk item
- Knowledge of safe lifting practices.
- Ability to safely store, receive and issue tools, supplies, and other equipment.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Frequent standing and walking. Frequent stooping and bending. May be required to lift over 50 pounds or carry objects weighing over 25 pounds. Use of standard office equipment. Manual dexterity to operate power tools or other machinery that may be potentially hazardous. Independent body mobility to stand, walk, crawl, stoop, bend, pull, or push; multi-limb coordination to quickly move hands and arms to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects. Quickly and repeatedly, adjust the controls of a machine or other objects to exact positions. Vision sufficient to read schematics, signs, labels, and instructions. The ability to speak and hear well enough to follow oral directions and to communicate clearly in person, on the telephone, and over a radio.
Positions are assigned to warehouse, office, and outdoor settings. Work involves exposure to dust, fumes, and other allergens. Incumbents may be subject to moving objects, machinery, or vehicles, and intense noise levels. May be required to work under various weather conditions, including rainstorms, and walk in uneven, slippery, and sometimes dangerous terrain. Requires the use and wear of safety equipment, including safety glasses, footwear, gloves, hats, and protective clothing.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Human Resource Services (HRS) screens all application materials for minimum and desirable qualifications. After screening, candidates who meet the minimum and desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. All candidates will be notified via email of their status in the process.
Online Multiple Choice Exam (Weighted 100%)
An online multiple choice exam consisting of job related questions will be administered. Candidates who pass this exam will be placed on the eligible list.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedure above may be modified. Candidates will be notified of any changes in the process via email.
Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
