Job description
Coordinate welding program curriculum facilitation and curriculum maintenance for welding skilled trade occupational skills development and entry level employment and/or apprenticeships for trainees completing/achieving the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Level-1 Credential. Provide guidance for development of trainees marketing strategies upon training completion.
- Coordinates and conducts industry-based welding education for trainees to meet the competency requirements stated in the program course curriculum and lesson plans.
- Lead group training sessions and facilitate relevant discussions and problems solving activities. Also will provide one-on-one tutorial when applicable.
- Assists trainees in understanding the full scope of the demands physical, mental, economical, and social in achieving success in the skilled trade, construction and welding industries.
- Collects, organizes and analyzes trainee records, test/exams, and participation.
- Compile and maintain occupational safety and educational standards in compliance with State and Local regulatory codes.
- Tests trainees for competence at benchmarks to ensure proficiency by course completion. Provides performance reports to trainees and other designated entities.
- Must stay abreast and maintain knowledge of and/or information related to modifications and employment opportunities in the welding industry to communicate to trainees.
- Design and identifies training aids such as training handbooks, exams, multimedia aids, supplies and materials.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and maintenance needs necessary for the ongoing instruction. Coordinates equipment and supplies orders upon approval with Purchasing Department.
- Exhibits appropriate professionalism and structure in the classroom with trainees, staff and referral sources, focusing on customer service and the development of a productive atmosphere.
- May be required to make presentation to construction and trade organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Keeps informed of current developments regarding labor market information.
- Participates in the presentation of welding program and service to referral agencies, to community employers or partners.
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures established by the agency.
- May be required to obtain certification in CPR and/or First Aid for the benefit of trainee health and safety.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
EDUCATION:
Certified welder.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years’ experience performing welding/welding construction.
- Certified/Licensed welder with instruction in a post-secondary education environment or apprenticeship program.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Level-1 Certification standards.
- Knowledge of MIOSHA safety standards.
- Possess the ability to teach and translate welding and related theories such as mathematics and mechanical reasoning skills to diverse populations.
- Competency in the areas of written and verbal communication, group communication, and facilitating structured lesson plans and curriculum.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand or sit for up to 6 hours.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle, reaching, assembly of welding equipment/objects, tools and controls.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to prioritize work assignments, develop and implement lesson plans and structured curriculums.
- Required to maintain safe, structured and professional operated learning environment while dealing with adult cohort groups.
- Ability to problem solve, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Must possess a positive attitude, good judgement and the ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with trainees.
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT:
- Must be able to fully master MIOSHA regulations and all aspects of welding and related equipment, tools, and gases.
- Must have knowledge and fundamental use of laptop computer and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Interactive position with trainees/students in welding training lab and classroom lectures.
OTHER:
- Will require personal transportation for travel to/from meetings.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
