Full Job Description (WIC-Program Qualified Nutritionist)

Responsible for carrying out the daily operations of the WIC Program based on policies and procedures of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the sponsoring agency, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center (WHMC). This includes providing nutrition counseling to participants, providing WIC benefits, breastfeeding support, and other related practices.

* NYSDOH Standards, policies and regulations and applies them appropriately.

* Presents appropriate appearance and follows WHMC Code, i.e. wearing Identification while on duty at all times; follow fire prevention policies, disaster protocols, infection control process.

* Has adequate age specific and nutritional knowledge/skills to conduct nutrition participant centered assessment and counseling

* Has adequate knowledge of computers and capable of performing all computer related functions

* Determines participants nutritional needs and risks by obtaining diet history, food habits and preferences in order to provide realistic nutrition counseling.

* Can accurately converts, calculates, collects, interprets data in the WIC system

* Prepares timely and appropriate High Risk Care Plan. Implement participant centered nutrition assessment to achieve realistic goals and behavioral change among clients.

* Conducts Faculated Group Discussions (FGDs), Participant Centered Nutrition Assessment (PCNA), food demonstrations, client nutrition assessments

* Performs special assignments and other initiates as mandated by the WIC Program

* Can carry assignments without constant reminder or supervision

* Maintains liaison and referral system with community organizations, relations to nutrition educators, health, medical or social services

Will Be Trained by Staff on:

* NYWIC WIC system and policies

* New York State WIC policies

* Services and food benefits/packages provided by WIC Program

* Breastfeeding practices, promotion, support, and policies

* Continued Professional Education credits (CPE) will be provided

Position Requirements

* This position requires a formal education of Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics

* Good oral and written communication skills

* Able to work a flexible schedule when needed

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

* Basic proficiency in Spanish, preferred.

* One year experience in supervision or working as a competent professional authority in WIC

Job Type: Full-time, $24.00 - $26.00 per hour

All employees must wear PPE in the office. Majority of patients are contacted via phone and some are being seen in-person.
