The Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) is now hiring for a WorkSource Specialist 4 (In Training) to serve our community, at our WorkSource Colville location. WorkSource Colville provides communities with inclusive workforce solutions that promote economic resilience and prosperity for all. As a WorkSource Specialist 4 (In Training), you will support local clients who need job support services and/or intensive skill development. Your phenomenal customer service, effective communication, presentation skills and familiarity with Microsoft Suite products will be relied upon as you explain program requirements, provide case management, evaluate, identify and explore solutions for overcoming challenges preventing employment. You will work closely with local diverse populations to navigate skill training and guide them toward a career path(s) they find exciting, in order to obtain successful employment.
What your typical day may look like:
- Work independently and within a team to provide in person and virtual employment services/resources to job seekers and employers.
- Conduct staff assisted job development, job matches and job follow-up; make job referrals; verify customer job searches.
- Determine eligibility and/or appropriateness for program(s); enroll and explain program participation requirements; customer eligibility and assessment.
- Facilitate job preparation activities, such as supporting customers in building resumes and cover letters, materials for a job application, preparing for interviews, and job search assistance while noting areas for needed skill development.
- Conduct group and individual orientations, and workshops; supply program specific information about services, benefits, and eligibility.

This is an in-training opportunity and will be hired as a WorkSource Specialist 3.
You will be required to successfully complete the training plan in order to promote to the next level of the series until the goal class of WorkSource Specialist 4 is reached.
Qualified candidates will have one (1) or more of the following experiences and/or education. Such as: Workforce development, customer service, retail, tech support, professional public contact work, unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims.
Option 1: A combination of education and/or relevant experience* totaling no less than seven (7) years.
Option 2: One (1) year of experience* as a WorkSource Specialist 3 within the Employment Security Department, or in an equivalent class with another state's Employment Security agency.
Option 3: A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience* in workforce development, social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work, such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement and banking OR a combination of education and/or relevant experience.
Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years
- A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Additional Requirement of Employment:
- Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
- Per Gov. Inslee’s Directive 22-13.1, employees, and volunteers of the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine series. As a condition of employment, ESD employees are required to provide proof of vaccination before starting work. A medical or religious exemption may be requested for accommodation.
- Must be able to travel as needed.
