Position Description
The YEP Educates Director is the individual responsible for the day to day operations and coordination of all YEP Educates programming. The Director will play a critical role in ensuring YEP Educates maximizes impact and educational outcomes by increasing the number of students served, increasing the number of HiSETs obtained and meeting or exceeding all targets set by YEP and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS). Additionally, the YEP Educates Director will supervise the YEP Educates Instructional Coordinator, YEP Educates Data and Assessment Manager as well as the YEP Educates supportive services team. The YEP Educates Director reports to YEP’s Chief Program Officer and works closely with YEP leadership and administrative teams in order to implement core Human Resources, Operations, and Program Quality and Financial functions within the YEP Educates service area.
Position Responsibilities
Program Sustainability & Innovation
- Maintain and strengthen YEP Educates programming
- Ensure YEP Educates meets or exceeds all program targets
- Ensure YEP Educates complies with all regulations set forth by the LCTCS and other funding partners
- Ensure that program spending aligns with the program's approved budget.
- Provide oversight to the implementation of student-centered and culturally appropriate curricula for YEP Educates students functioning at various educational levels
- In collaboration with the data and evaluation team, monitor systems and staff to effectively produce the results expected by stakeholders
- Leverage data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with Fund Development staff to tell a comprehensive and compelling story of the YEP Educates programming to solicit and steward organizational resources
Community Engagement
- Represent YEP at select community meetings, collaborative partnerships, and events
- Ensure that YEP Educates is able to create and maintain key partnerships that are essential to the program’s effectiveness
Team Leadership
- Recruit and select an effective and diverse team YEP Educates staff
- Manage and develop staff to meet program objectives and goals
- Observe, give feedback, and meet with direct reports on a regular basis to provide both strategic direction and responsive support
- Design and provide high quality interventions and support to staff
- Ensure that YEP Educates staff are submitting expense documentation, timesheets and other required documentation in a timely manner
General Program Administration
- Ensure the upkeep and appearance of YEP Educates facilities, including all satellites
- Remain current on relevant national trends and best practices in adult education, alternative education, community based programming, etc.
- Collaborate with YEP Chief Program Officer and other YEP Leadership Team members on the YEP Educates program design, incorporating the long term strategic priorities for the organization
- Other relevant responsibilities that may arise
Training
The YEP Educates Director will receive on the job training and work closely with the Chief Program Officer and other members of the Leadership Team to gain a thorough understanding of the assets and need areas of YEP Educates as well as operational procedures. The experienced and dedicated YEP Educates team will also participate in the onboarding and ongoing training and support, to ensure that the incoming Director has a comprehensive understanding of the YEP Educates services, programmatic approaches and the needs of the population served. The YEP Educates Director will be provided necessary leadership training and will work with the Chief Program Officer and Director of People and Culture to identify additional training required to increase knowledge, skills, and ability to perform at a high level.
The YEP Educates team, many of whom have 10+ years of professional experience in adult education and several of whom have 10+ years experience at YEP, will work alongside the incoming Director to orient them to YEP’s adult basic education and high school equivalency programming.
Qualifications
- BA/BS required; MA/MS in a relevant field preferred
- At least 5 years of experience in secondary education, adult education, alternative education settings or GED/HiSET preparation required, preferably with opportunity youth and/or adult learners
- At least 5 years of management/supervisory experience with demonstrated success at leading a team
- Direct experience with providing educational and/or community based services to students or participants, specifically through trauma informed and restorative practices
- Familiarity with and experience working in either the educational or non-profit sectors in New Orleans is highly preferred
- Experience developing and refining programmatic approach, to ensure the programming runs efficiently and the services provided meet the needs of the participants engaged.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective relationships with colleagues and external partners
- Deep belief in the core values, mission and purpose of YEP
Salary and Compensation
This position is full-time with an annual salary being offered between $70,000 to $80,000 depending upon experience, plus an excellent benefits package. YEP provides an option to all full-time employees for 100% coverage of health insurance premiums.
