QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners as a Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, School Counselor, or other as approved by the Director of Special Education.- Masters in human services or education preferred
- Five (5) or more years of educational experience; preferably in a public school PK-12 setting.
- Commitment to supporting the growth of others and the belief that adult learning is essential to student learning.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise of special education law, Iowa Administrative Code, Iowa IEP compliance, and experience in utilizing Evidence-Based Practices with special education instruction in the areas of reading, math, and behavior, including specific knowledge of Iowa Core.
- Experience designing, presenting, and facilitating adult professional learning experiences and working collaboratively as a member of a professional development planning team.
- Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
- Demonstrate expertise in programming and instruction for students requiring special education services
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Community and Multi-Tier Support System process and protocols
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: N/A
Executive Summary: Provides support to teachers in implementing the district and department mission and vision, as it pertains to the DDSDP, to serve special education students. This position will coordinate and enhance the district special education programs, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. This position requires the continuous use of independent judgment. The performance responsibilities shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the district and department.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Director of Special Education in providing leadership in the development of district special education programs based on effective student learning practices and state and federal laws and regulations- Assists the Director of Special Education in implementing recommendations from the district’s special education strategic plan-aligns the district’s special services, programs, plans, and actions to the district special education service delivery plan.
- Assists the Director of Special Education in overseeing state and federal compliance with special education programs
- Support effective structures for social-emotional learning and prosocial behavioral development within an MTSS framework and a continuum of Special Education Services.
- Meet with building-level student assistance and leadership teams to assist with the problem-solving and data-based decision-making processes at the individual student and systems levels.
- Assists in monitoring the implementation and compliance of special education services/ programs with state and federal laws, professional practices, and high-achieving comparable districts
- Maintain appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data
- Works to align the District’s supports and services to the District Developed Service Delivery Plan for Special Education.
- Portrays a vision for District staff to effectively team and collaborate to meet the needs of all students in District Schools.
- Provides direct support and assistance to site administrators and teachers.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Teacher Contract. Salary and calendar year are to be established by the Board of Education.
