Louisville Research and Development Center: A brand new state of the art facility located at 2700 Chestnut Station Ct, Louisville, KY 40299 was opened for business on April 19, 2017. It has over 30,000 square feet of office and laboratory space currently housing over 50 very experienced technical engineers in the major appliance fields, including divisions of: Dishwasher, Refrigeration, Laundry, Small Appliances, Cooking, HVAC products (RAC, PAC, Dehums, and Central AC) and Innovation.

Summary:

As the key role for the introduction of new US product platforms, the Mechanical Design Engineer Co-op will join a team of experts meeting the needs of the consumer American Consumer in Laundry, Dishwashing, Refrigeration, Innovation or Room Air Conditioner technology. The Co-op will work on product development of new and innovative features for integration into a US product line. The Co-op will support the development of new technologies and designs which provide market-leading performance and consumer acceptance. The Co-op will also have the opportunity to assist in the development of Midea’s US patent portfolio development, as well as actively working on individual part design, prototyping and a wide variety laboratory work in proving out conceptual designs

Responsibilities:

• Assists Platform Manager in defining product specifications
• Participates in competitive research and technical assessments
• Participates in product tear down in order to facilitate understanding of competitive landscape
• Conducts product testing in order to prove out feasibility studies for innovation and development
• Works with Engineers on intellectual property for inclusion in Midea portfolio
• Conducts root cause analysis of product as required
• Conducts part design in Solidworks or CREO and creates prototype models for fit and mechanical analysis
• Works in lab environment and assists in creating design of experiments to assess proof of mechanical design concepts
• Conduct Failure Mode Effects Analysis on structural features and systems to identify risk and ensure that the design of the system and features are robust
• Actively participate in technical project reviews and innovation.
• Work cross functionally with various internal and external engineering groups to collaborate on project work

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or better in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
• Positions located in Louisville, KY
