Job description
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting single women and families who seek overflow services during the winter months of November through March. This includes conducting intakes and providing physical and emotional support to the guests during the assigned shift.
Wheeler Mission is a privately funded 501 (c) 3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious. We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Individual must be willing to sign and adhere to the WM Statement of Faith.
- Dependability – consistently at work and on time, reports to all scheduled shifts, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve personal performance, and completes tasks in a timely and accurate manner
- Flexibility – be flexible and able to work with men, women and children experiencing homelessness from various backgrounds and at different skill levels
- Experience – previous experience working with the homeless population is preferred and compensated accordingly

The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate exemplary attendance
- Complete intakes on incoming WC guests and maintain appropriate data on each individual
- Create a safe atmosphere for the individuals utilizing the WC program
- Secure guest belongings at the beginning of each shift and distribute needed supplies
- Ensure that guests are given the opportunity to be included in all offered meals
- Monitor guests' activities throughout the shift
- Create rapport with the guests and encourage community
- Ensure that the areas remain clean and sanitary
- Gather and sort nightly laundry to prepare for next shift
- Connect the guests to necessary resources including but not limited to Emergency Shelters
Work Environment:
The Winter Contingency Monitor (WCM) must be able to carry out the required duties in a fast paced Christ Centered Environment that is grace-based, trauma-informed, and strengths focused.
Physical Demands:
To perform the essential job functions, a candidate must be capable of performing many physical functions including but not limited to:
- Walking short distances with the ability to ascend and descend 10 flights of stairs
- Physical dexterity sufficient to type and operate standard office equipment
- Strength to lift office supplies, equipment and small children up to 20 pounds

The WCM must be able to:
- Read, write and interpret written documents
- Communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, community partners and volunteers
Required Education and Experience:
- HS Diploma or the equivalent in education or experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience working with women and/or men who may have experienced substance abuse, mental health concerns, trauma, domestic violence or homelessness
Background Investigation and Drug Testing:
- After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.
- Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

This position requires both a conflict of interest statement and a confidentiality statement.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Winter Contingency Monitor may be responsible for providing task supervision of volunteers.
Expected Hours of Work:
This temporary seasonal position is typically staffed throughout the week and may include evening and weekend hours. Schedules are assigned at the discretion of the Director or Program Manager and may change at any time with or without advance notice.
