Job description

Under the direction of their supervisor and in accordance with Association policies, the 4K Teacher is responsible for coordinating daily activities in a 4K (Four-Year-Old Kindergarten) program in collaboration with the local school district, and for providing a safe and nurturing environment for a group of 4K children. This position follows the school calendar year schedule and requires a minimum of 1 week of work during each of the summer months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with school district curriculum and requirements, and actively participate in the daily activities of a group of children in order to engage students and monitor safety.
  • Serve as a role model to staff and participants.
  • Identify and meet the needs of the children in the program and work with school district personnel to connect children to additional services, as needed.
  • Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  • Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department and school district requirements.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  • Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha Countys emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  • Uphold and exemplify the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  • Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Department of Public Instruction, the local school district, or other regulatory agencies.
  • Attend all staff meetings, community outreach events and trainings as required by supervisor or local school district.
  • Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a Bachelors degree in education, with a DPI certificate to teach Early Childhood.
  • Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
