Academic Advisor

Office of Undergraduate Student Advising
The University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting is seeking a self-motivated, high-energy generalist to join its team as an academic advisor to a freshmen and/or transfer cohort of Leventhal undergraduate students.
The advisor counsels and provides undergraduate students with a wide-range of comprehensive and developmental services, including admission, financial aid, academic counseling and advising, transfer credit evaluation, graduation counseling and clearance, records and registration, scholarships, career planning, and job placement. The position reports to Director, Undergraduate Program.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provides academic advising for undergraduate accounting students; advises on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, CPA licensing requirements, transfer credit evaluation, graduation requirements, career opportunities
Monitors student progress, particularly students on probation
Maintains accounting undergraduate students' records on the University Advisement Database
Evaluates student problems (i.e., academic, administrative or personal) and refers student to appropriate faculty or student services office for additional counseling; coordinates with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution
Coordinates registration activities, grading, verifies degree progress, enrollment and degree verification with the Office of Academic Records and Registrar; interfaces with faculty, administrators and students regarding grading policies, academic progress and student performance
Assists with petitions, applications, resumes and letters of recommendation
Assists in the planning and coordination of student events such as orientation, networking events, the annual scholarship dinner and commencement; oversees the Student Honor Council
Assists in the preparation and/or update of the website, student database, on-line scholarship application, bulletins, newsletters, handbooks, guides, fact sheets and brochures
Meets with prospective USC students, either in individual appointments, community college presentations, or as a representative of USC at admissions interviews
Participates in committees at the department, school, college or university level which deal with student services
Occasionally works late hours for meetings or events; available to participate in short international programs
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, business, or student advising
Master’s degree
Two years of directly related experience, preferably within an educational institution
Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads
Genuine interest in working with undergraduate students and developing relationships
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong time management and organizational skills
