Academic Laboratory Manager for Chemistry

The Chemistry Department at Frostburg State University (FSU) seeks applications for a full-time exempt Academic Laboratory Manager. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities: This individual will facilitate daily chemical laboratory operations for the Department of Chemistry. This position will serve as both an administrative and laboratory position. Responsibilities include ordering/receiving chemicals and supplies, maintain chemical and equipment inventories, procurement and budget reporting, supervision of student departmental employees, supervision/maintain departmental instruments and computers, conduct safety inspections, and upkeep of safety equipment, and ensure proper chemical waste collection and disposal. This position will also aid in supporting faculty and students with teaching laboratories and research endeavors. The individual is expected to follow all university, state, and federal policies for chemical and biological safety and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of laboratory maintenance, research, or coordinator experience is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as well as flexibility with duties in a lab-based setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with financial reporting and budget analysis is preferred. Experience with regulatory agencies, vendor contracts, and equipment service contracts preferred. Prior training or experience with chemical safety, chemical instrumentation in both usage and maintenance, and routine IT duties is preferred.
