Academic Specialist - Department of Economics
Overview
The Department of Economics is part of the School of Arts and Sciences. The department has three undergraduate programs and two master programs. It serves students who are taking economics as majors and also the university at large as many students take economic courses as part of their core curriculum or social science requirement. The department strives to fulfill the university mission to “discover and impart the truth through excellence in teaching and research.”
The Academic Specialist will support the Department of Economics regular operations. It will be the main point of contact to students and faculty for their day to day activities at the school. This position will report directly to the Chair of the deoartment. They will suppoet the department with registration with students.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to department faculty. Maintain regular contact with vendors and secure timely payment of invoices. Assist in coordination of class time, office hours and other events that require physical space at the university. Prepare and plan logistics of off campus activities and other networking opportunities and events for students. Contact economic experts on a regular basis. Support students for timely registration in classes conductive to their academic program. Alert faculty on problems in this area. Coordinate with students their attendance to academic activities. Provide support to create manuals with policies, guidelines and procedures for the department.
In coordination with the Chair, organize recruitment events for prospective students. Participate in recruitment events developed by the department. Collaborate in promotional efforts including the production of videos and social media content. Support in the creation of promotional material for the department.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience with technical competencies and other knowledge required by the position.
Excellent English writing skills required.
Knowledge of Economics required.
Intermediate level of analytical skills required.
Experience working with faculty a plus.
Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and nationalities a plus.
Knowledge of educational technology (Blackboard, Zoom and so on) a plus.
Knowledge of video production and social media a plus.
Experience in international settings a plus.
Knowledge of a second language a plus, preference for Spanish or French.
Knowledge of Economics required.
