The Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Financial Services (OFS) is seeking candidates for the position of Accountant 3 (General Ledger). EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Pay Grade: KThis position, one of five, is responsible for ensuring that agency transactions have been properly accounted for and are stated accurately in the agency’s general ledger and financial reporting. These responsibilities are accomplished with various monthly analytical reviews and procedures. This role is essential for financial reporting and often means close liaison with departments and individuals from across the agency.Under broad supervision, performs or oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of accounting activity for a department or agency. Analyzes financial information and programs, identifies financial trends, makes recommendations to management and prepares a full range of financial reports, including specialized or non-standard reports.Roles and Responsibilities: Supports general accounting functions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, account reconciliation, purchasing, asset management, and cash management.Reviews and reconciles monthly accounting data and use advanced research and problem-solving skills to determine issues and the source/resolution for errors found.Performs monthly bank reconciliations and identify variances at a detailed transaction level. Works with subsections of Finance to correct the variances.Analytical review of trial balance accounts to identify accounting errors needing resolution.Preparation of journal entries as required.Reviews and/or assists with the creation of financial statements and year-end reports to support the State and Federal year-end close and report process.Identifies and corrects procedural problems revealed in reviews and audits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND One year of professional accounting experienceORBachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Two years of professional accounting experienceORBachelor's degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional accounting experience.Note: Some positions may require certifications. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in AccountingSeven (7) years or more performing at least two of the following accounting functions: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General ledger account reconciliations, Bank Reconciliations, Financial ReportingKnowledge of and experience with the State’s financial management system TeamWorks (PeopleSoft)Advance Microsoft Excel Skills, with data mining experience (will be tested)Knowledge and experience with other Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Prior work experience in the governmental accounting field
