About the Role:
The Associate accountant will be the point of initial finance review of expense reporting exceptions processed through the Concur Expense platform and will partner internally to ensure Sunshine Act Reporting is complete and accurate with respect to expenses submitted through the Concur platform and to assist with Sunshine Reporting as needed. This position will be key in providing guidance to employees, serve as a point of escalation for non-compliant expense reports, and will work with management to root cause and address non-compliant expense reports.

This role will also assist the Accounting team in a variety of functions which may include prepare, analyze, and review financial statements using accounting principles. May be requested to research and resolve any reconciling items, complete special projects, receive requests from external and internal auditors, assist in control testing, and support general documentation.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Monitor report exceptions within Concur in order to escalate compliance issues for management review
  • Assist in conducting detailed expense report transaction and record reviews, effectively document findings, and assist in identifying and following up on remediation activities to address such findings
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee expense reporting and Sunshine Act inquiries and clarifications, both policy and system-related
  • Analyze existing expense reporting processes, work closely with staff and management to streamline current systems, leverage new finance-related information technology tools, and refine standard operating procedures to provide maximum benefit to the organization
  • Supports requests from external and internal auditors as well as various groups company wide
  • Quickly identify expense reporting solutions for recurring issues or problems and escalate for training purposes
  • Actively engage with the Corporate Compliance team regarding Sunshine Act compliance and reporting
  • Prepares journal entries. Evaluates journal entries for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs balance sheet account reconciliations for general ledger accounts
  • Ensures the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of monthly close activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and Some experience in accounting (Compliance, Internal Audit, or Finance) field
  • Working knowledge of general ledger and expense reports processing
  • Familiar with ERP and/or Financial Systems such as Great Plains
  • Working knowledge of Expense Management Systems such as Concur
  • Ability to review and analyze financial transactions and/or arrangements that could raise potential compliance issues
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of a specific functional discipline while working to acquire higher-level knowledge and skills
  • Understands Neurocrine's business objectives and developing understanding of Neurocrine's services and customers
  • Comfortable with tools and processes that support work conducted by functional area
  • Detail oriented
