Accountant - Tribal Operations

JOB DESCRIPTION:



PAY RANGE: $62,185 - $77,731

Under direct supervision, performs professional and technical accounting activities. Specializes in the specific area of governmental fund accounting and grant compliance. Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, reconciles’ reports, and financial data. Knowledgeable in applying accounting principles and practices to a variety of accounting, budgeting, fund accounting and/or other fiscal functions while adhering to established policies and procedures. Performs job tasks with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:

  • Analyzes financial transactions and prepares necessary journal entries.
  • Analyzes and codes payroll records for completeness and cost allocation.
  • Records bank and investment transactions; reconciles to the general ledger.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliation on assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Collaborates with intercompany departments on intercompany billings.
  • Assists with analytical procedures in relation to variances and reconciliation.
  • Supports other departments by researching and interpreting financial transactions.
  • Examines accounting documents to verify conformance to policies, procedures and accounting standards.
  • Assists in preparing schedules and supporting documentations for year-end audit.
  • Analyzes investment transactions and prepares analytical reports.
  • Reviews and processes documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with government and private granting agencies.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and integrity while observing the highly confidential nature of the position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
    A working knowledge of the principles and practices of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Circulars, fund accounting, grant administration and government finance is preferred.
  • Broad accounting knowledge; up-to-date knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, as well as relevant laws and regulations; ability to apply accounting theory to routine accounting problems.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software; NetSuite preferred.
    Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail, and Internet.
  • Ability to operate office accounting machines and equipment.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The Team Member is usually subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The Team Member is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions and to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
