THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, SCI Laurel Highlands is looking for a highly motivated, detailed oriented person with bookkeeping experience to join our team as an Accounting Assistant!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for keeping inmates' accounts up-to-date and accurate for your assigned Institution.

As an Accounting Assistant you will be responsible for all inmates releases and transfers, answering requests/inquiries concerning inmate accounts, and resolving discrepancies. You will also type memos, provide account summaries, return telephone inquires, and post entries into Quickbooks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment. 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associates Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
