Accounting Manager

TalentoHCM has partnered with a health insurance technology company that primarily engages in the development and operation of private e-commerce health insurance marketplaces, consumer engagement platforms, agency technology systems, and insurance policy administration platforms. They are looking to add an Accounting Manager to their team.

Summary

The Accounting Manager position supports both the commissions and GL teams. This includes reviewing and approving weekly and monthly commissions and carrier and vendor bordereaux payment files, reviewing, and approving GL journal entries, and reviewing and approving reconciliations. This position assists with the annual and quarterly external and internal audits, ad hoc reports, and projects. Supporting the accounting team with the month end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, and providing explanations for significant fluctuations is required. This position will manage a team of roughly 7 direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and train the accounting team
• Perform general ledger account analysis and provide explanations for significant fluctuations
• Support internal and external quarterly and year end audit requests
• Develop complex ad hoc reports and financial analyses
• Identify opportunities for process and/or system improvements
• Support the accounting team and provide guidance and/or assistance to ensure a timely and accurate month end close process
• Review and approve general ledger journal entries and reconciliations
• Review and approve weekly and monthly commissions and carrier and vendor bordereaux payment files
• Works alongside department heads and analysts to provide reports to upper management

Experience

• Bachelor of Arts/Science in Accounting or Finance required
• Certified Public Accountant license required
• 5+ years general ledger/corporate accounting/public accounting required
• 1+ year of experience managing an accounting team is required
• Experience in public accounting preferred
• Demonstrable proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with an emphasis on Excel
• Ability to maintain exacting attention to detail in a fast-paced and changing environment
• Effective written/verbal/listening communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction to meet objectives and as part of a team on larger initiatives/assignments
• Experience working with private equity firms and public companies preferred
