Accounts Receivable Analyst

Summary:

Responsible for ongoing analysis of the University's student receivables, collections, and payment plans to ensure proper collection efforts, accurate balances, and effective communication to students. The Analyst acts as the University's liaison with third party collection agencies.

Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree plus two years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with collections required. Experience working in higher education and with Colleague preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Aptitude for understanding and applying collection regulations.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent telephone etiquette and communication skills
- Knowledge of general accounting practices
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database systems
- Experience with Ellucian, Blackboard, and Informer preferred
- Ability to convey information effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
- Ability to provide customer service and answer student inquiries regarding their financial status
- Ability to resolve problems in a professional and helpful manner
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team

- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel between campuses as needed
Physical Requirements:
Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sedentary work. Keyboarding, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy office environment on a university campus. Daily work with computers, monitors, telephones, copy machines, and other office equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Working knowledge of federal and state regulations on debt collections.
- Proactively initiates outbound calls and communications to contact delinquent accounts to secure payment and/or negotiate repayment arrangements.
- Documents payment plans via electronic agreement/signature and monitors for compliance.
- Resolves collections disputes by researching accounts and correcting discrepancies.
- Determines when accounts are uncollectible and assign them to third party collection agency.
- Posts/reports payments on collection accounts and reconciles balances between systems.
- Completes reconciliation of account balances between the University and collection agencies.
- Completes analysis of all collection accounts and recommends collection strategies to Assistant Director and Director.
- Responsible for heavy volume of verbal and written correspondence with students, collection agencies, and families.
- Tracks University in-house exception payment plans. Completes monthly reconciliation of in-house University payment plans.
- Provides excellent customer service and counseling in guiding students and parents through all requirements and steps in the payment process. This position is the primary support of Student Accounts Specialist (SAS) for phones and front desk coverage, including taking payments. Requires working at front desk as needed, as well as consistent support of phone when calls are waiting, answering department email inbox as needed and providing coverage when SAS is unavailable.
- Process various debits and credits in maintenance of student accounts and GL.
- Seeks knowledge of financial aid awards, refund processing, billing processes, and other processes as needed in support of the Assistant Directors.
- Works in conjunction with Director and Assistant Director to test, automate, and streamline processes and document procedures.
