Job description
- Lead activities groups for individuals and small groups.
- Create appropriate therapeutic plans for patients and determine those activities suited to the needs of the individual and groups.
- Prepare written progress reports, participate in regular meetings related to department information, patient progress review and discussion of therapeutic treatment approaches.
- Organize and participate in the planning of special events, holiday celebrations and special program-wide activities.
- Maintain activity therapy equipment and supplies.
- Work with Recreational Technicians, Aides, Student Interns and Volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BA/BS with a major in Occupation, Recreation, Art Therapy or major in Psychology, Sociology, Physical Education or allied fields.
- Applicants who do not have a college degree may substitute experience in applicable field.
- No prior experience required with degree but prefer at least one year of experience in hospital or other medical facility therapy unit.
- Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate to patients and families.
- Energetic approach to therapy treatment.
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
