Job description

This position supports the Mission of Valparaiso University and the Parking & Transportation Department by safely transporting students and/or staff with accommodations on and around campus and at university special events. This individual will have the ability to learn the Valparaiso University campus geography which includes building and parking lot locations as well as areas in the surrounding community. Will exhibit and provide excellent customer service skills and assist transport customers (students and staff as needed).


Major Responsibilities:

  • Enforce parking rules and regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of the university's students, staff, and guests.
  • Issue parking citations to those in violation.
  • Provide daily route records for transports.
  • Survey parking lots to help identify and suggest changes to resolve parking problems.
  • Daily vehicle maintenance inspection of the transport van.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and listening communication skills and time/stress management skills.
  • Will exhibit and provide excellent customer service skills and assist transport customers.
  • Have a working knowledge of current Indiana traffic laws.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely drive a transit van in inclement weather and operate ADA equipment.
  • Possess a basic understanding of/operation of a smartphone.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. state-issued driver's license with a clean record and a satisfactory background check
  • High School Diploma required
  • Hours Monday- Friday afternoons and evenings, some weekends/
  • Limited Full time, full time only during the academic year.

Driving a University vehicle or other vehicle while conducting University business is a requirement of this position. Applicants who apply for this position will be required to complete a motor vehicle record check. At a minimum, a successful candidate's driving record must be in compliance with guidelines established by the University. The results of the record check will be evaluated by the University before an applicant can become an employee of the University.


Valparaiso University requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or apply for and receive a qualified exemption within two weeks of the employment start date.
