About CISE
The Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support with day-to-day tasks related to our Fabrication Technology Project. This is a great opportunity to assist our Fab Lab Team as well as our partners in maintaining and assisting with the development of unforgettable experiences for our underserved and underrepresented communities.
The CSUDH Fab Lab project is at the forefront of innovative STEM education. Our fleet of five mobile fabrication laboratories are used by K-16 students and teachers, pre-service STEM teachers, CSUDH faculty, and community members. We aim to provide participants with tangible STEM applications to investigate and solve real-world challenges; teach students to develop 21st-century skills through project-based learning; promote equity within the Southern California region and be a model for sustainable innovation in K-16 STEM education. The project brings STEM into classrooms and communities by providing participants with access to fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC mills, 3D modeling software, an electronics lab, and a suite of other tools that will allow anyone to create almost anything. The CSUDH Fab Lab project inspires and creates young engineers, inventors, artists, and entrepreneurs!
This position is a full-time, non-exempt, benefited, plus employer-sponsored health, dental vision, life insurance, retirement program, and sick/vacation pay.
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Maintaining complete and up-to-date files for all program participants
- Support the Teacher Support Institute on Saturdays
- Assisting in coordinating Teacher Support and Instructional Team events, including but not limited to catering, event space, digital design requests, and parking codes
- Assisting in support of NSF Fellows, APPLE Interns, and REAL residents
- Maintaining a participant database for evaluation and project reporting purposes
- Assisting in the coordination of the pre and post-content evaluation exams and will maintain records of results
- Ensuring all participants register for the BIO 595 sequence of courses
- Assisting project coordinator and project director with preparing annual performance reports and meeting other reporting requirements
- Coordinating meeting schedules with fellows and leadership
- Assisting in coordinating NSF and Teacher Support meetings and events, including but not limited to catering, event space, digital design requests, and parking codes
- Coordinating all communication with participants and the committee regarding program activities and updates
- Assisting in facilitation of NSF Fellow mentorships by placing residents in their classrooms, hiring them for Lab School, or other mentoring opportunities
- Providing support for Fellows participating in local and national conferences by requesting materials, offering poster printing, and collecting travel forms and receipts for reimbursement
- Preparing paperwork for Fellow stipend distribution
- Assisting in coordinating cognitive coaching sessions
- Collecting paperwork for substitute reimbursement for lesson study session coverage
- Planning the action research presentation and culmination events
- Providing flexibility to support in Teacher Support duties similar to the named above
Education: High School Diploma
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of database maintenance
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Google suite
- Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects
- Outstanding leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a flexible schedule (Saturdays)
- Willingness to work in a team environment
- Must possess good time management and multitasking skills in executing projects
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
- Valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Must be punctual, detail-oriented, and must be available to work on an ongoing basis
Communications and collaboration: Must collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to support personnel, management, teachers, parents, administrators, and other clients regularly.
Organizational skills: Organization and prioritization are the core elements of the Administrative Assistant's responsibilities. You must know how to keep yourself and others organized and how to determine which tasks are the most important in a given list.
Writing: Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and writing are essential to an Administrative Assistant, who must be proficient in a variety of styles, from creative to professional to technical to education and more.
